A while ago some of you may have heard me talking about my worst day ever at work. I had to tell a woman who had been in every day for the last week bawling her eyes out in my office about her debt levels that the only option was to sell her home. She was miserable and completely pessimistic about everything and her household "budget" was seeing her lose $900 a month; it was starting to take its toll on her marriage. She had resisted the idea of selling her home as it would put a lot of strain on her handicapped son and she had so many memories in the home. I felt terrible breaking the news to her and her husband who was planning to retire in 2-3 years.
Well today I ran into her and her husband in the grocery store, they came up to me so cheerfully and the following conversation ensued:
Her: Hi Daniel, its so nice to see you again!
Me: Oh wow, how are you two doing? Did everything work out?
Her: (paraphrased) Can't you tell from the smiles, everything is great! Thank you so much for you help we are now debt free and moved in to a brand new apartment building. We've got savings for the first time and a new budget that means he (the husband) can actually retire in 2 years.
I can't really explain the feeling, it was a lot like giving kids toys with Press Start but I certainly wish I could see the end result of more of my clients. It makes me feel good to know that I truly help people on a day-to-day basis.
To the three people that read this, if you ever want to meet with me and talk about your finances I can get you towards any goal you want. 100% confidential.
