How do you designers do it? I feel like there's always something that's not quite right, or that could be tweaked a little bit. It's enough to drive a person (me) insane. How do you know when to just let go and say it's good enough ( Read more... )

It's for the promotion. I know I already have the job and this is just a formality, but the reason I feel so attached to making my resume as bomb as it can be is because I have this crazy idea that it might help back up my case in the salary negotiation stage.

I have to submit my resume and a cover letter to the HR director, then I have to interview with her and the Exec Director, the Deputy Director, the Director of Nat'l Programs and Site Development and the Director of Grants and Contracts...they will all have reviewed my resume and cover letter for the interview. All have some say in how much I'm paid. I figure it's better to go for overkill in this stage than not trying hard enough.

I'm now mostly at the design stage, but a lot of my frustration also comes from deciding how much content to leave in - I have a problem with being a little too verbose and thinking that I need a ton of detail when it's really not necessary. I've slashed a lot, but I'm still brooding over tiny details and word changes to make it as strong as possible.

and...if I get it right this time, then it won't be as hellish if I do decide to make a change in the near future!
