I agree very much about what the gist of the Story of Bella is. And I liked how they did that at the end too. And I was so glad that Edward wasn't as wooden as he'd been on-screen before. In fact, we get more of why Bella and Edward are so perfect for each other in this outing than the previous 2 films. Taylor does have that way about him, I agree with that also. He sort of reminds me in a way of Ashton Kutcher, who is so damned natural onscreen you can't help but adore him. And I never think of myself as an Ashton fan, except that he's really just kind of . . . charming and effortlessly easy on the eyes and heart. You know? It was nice to get less whiny Jacob; although I cringe at what they'll do in the next 2 installments.
I also think that they still rely too heavily upon dialog written by Stephenie Meyer in the novels. She isn't THAT good of a writer. Seriously. Her story is good as a whole, you know? This is my favorite of the books as well and while I could have used MORE action and battle footage - I was happy with what we did have.
Bryce was not a great choice at all. Riley was GREAT. Esme's hair was atrocious and I have NO idea as to what they were trying to hide there. Except perhaps Elizabeth Reaser was involved with another project and only available a day or two?
Charlie continues to be an absolute favorite - both on the page and on-screen. He's just pitch perfect ALWAYS. I loved the extra time we saw in Seattle and the Volturi witnessing what was going on there. The effects were better - agreed. Pacing was a bit better, but again....I do think they are just doing this for the book readers rather than doing a true translation to big screen for newbies.
You didn't mention Jasper. And I have issues with Jasper - not the character. With the actor portraying him. I think he's HORRIBLE. He's so damned wooden I can hardly stand it. Emmet is wonderful and Rosalie has grown on me. Alice is Alice. But Jasper? GUH...save me. And this was such a big movie for him. So ..ick.
I actually happen to like Kristen Stewart, but did think that she really seemed to . . embrace Bella more in this outing. And that came across.
I had thought to write a review (as you know) and am glad you did. But my comment is pretty damned long rofl. Sorry.
