My Thoughts:
I FINALLY saw this movie! I've wanted to see it since I'd heard they were making it and it has a lot of actors and actresses that I really do enjoy to watch. I think I'd also heard that it wasn't that great, but I gotta tell ya. I kind of loved it!
Based loosely on the book of the same name, the movie basically is a series of short stories that do connect and are interwoven showing different aspects of relationships. Men's point of view vs. women's point of view. Being married and what it might mean. Dating, etc. However, there is one central character, Gigi, (Gennifer Goodwin) that we watch as she tries and tries to find love. She is given advice by Alex, a local bartender and friend of one of the guys she starts to fall for (Kevin Connolly) throughout the movie that rings true. And their burgeoning friendship is longest and strongest thread.
I also personally really enjoyed the storyline of Beth and Neil (Jennifer Aniston and Ben Affleck) who have been dating/together happily for 7 years, but Beth wants it move towards marriage. Their story is one of discovering what makes you happy doesn't always make those around your happy or meet their expectations. And it felt particularly grown up in this movie that was somewhat geared towards those in their late 20's/early 30's. I appreciated that.
Scarlett Johansson is such a waste of space though. Can someone tell me WHY the woman still gets to be in films? I find her utterly forgettable AND annoying. And not even that hot dammit! I can't say the same for Bradley Cooper though....hubba hubba. Even though he seems to always pick the somewhat rascal roles!
One aspect of this movie is that it FELT true. All of the info about guys and what they do or don't do to let you know they are honestly interested. I've come to determine over my many years *cough* that men ARE in fact pretty damned simple and easy to figure out. It's women that are tricky and nearly impossible to figure out. I feel for guys having to deal with us gals, you know?! So yeah, I learned some things from the movie too. How often can you say that?!
It's a really well directed and put together movie. It's funny and romantic and silly. It is also touching and serious at the right spots. It has a great score and honestly is one that I highly recommend. I was VERY pleasantly surprised by how good it really was. So check it out would ya?!
NOTE: I marked it 8.5 due to the presence of Scarlett Johansson. Don't hate!
