Movie Horror: I Am Omega

Sometimes I wonder why I torture myself thusly.

I Am Omega
Year: 2007
Score: 2/10
Bottom Line: Wouldn't wish this on the ex.

My Thoughts:

About the best thing I can say about this I Am Legend rip-off is that the DVD has a nice cover. Other than that? Meh. Maybe that Mark Dacascos is pretty. Mostly.

The story? Did you see I Am Legend? You now know the basic plot. Lone man (Mark Dacascos, I was never quite sure what his name was in the movie. Maybe Richard. Or Renchard. Whatever.) in a post apocalyptic world wanders aimlessly and kills zombie things. Throw in a little back story with his now-dead family and a girl who looks like his dead wife who might have a cure to the zombie-virus-infection in her blood and you've hit all the hot points.

First off, Mark Dacascos never makes you feel like he's a man on the edge. In I Am Legend, Will Smith made you ache for his loneliness and the pointlessness of his life. Mark Dacascos never reaches the point where you wonder why he keeps pushing forward despite all the horror around him.

On top of the acting, there are a couple of tertiary things that make this movie laughable ...
  • He lives in a "fortified" house with a wall of windows. Excuse me, but wouldn't you choose something a little more defensible? Something without a wall of windows?
  • His fortifications include a chainlink fence with a smattering of barbed wire wound across the top and a gate that can be swung open easily. *blink*
  • It's never explained why he's setting bombs around the city. To destroy the zombie nest? Because he likes fire? Because he has nothing better to do?
  • The soldiers. WTF. Those guys were just annoying.
  • The girl (Brianna? Rhianna? Whatever.) shows up very conveniently with a cure for the virus. Plus, how did she get lost from her caravan in the middle of the zombie-infested city? Wouldn't the caravan avoid zombie-infested places? I would.
  • How does the internet still work?
  • Why would you make your great zombie escape in a lime green convertible? Why? Lime green? No. Convertible? Do you know how easily those zombies are going to be able to jump into the back of the car? Think before you choose a stupid car.

    Oh, there's more. I just can't anymore. I want to. I just can't.

Skip this one. Catch I Am Legend and watch a movie that makes you feel, not this drivel.
