Bottom Line: Try it - you'll like it!
My Thoughts:
This is one of those movies that I really, really liked the first time I watched it. It was just so damn fun and bubbly.
The story? Nancy Drew (Emma Roberts) is the girl sleuth who can solve any crime. When she joins her father (Tate Donovan) in LA on a business trip, Nancy finds herself in the middle of a years old mystery involving a mysterious actress and the inheritance she left her daughter. The catch? No one knew that there even was a daughter. Nancy, of course, manages to track down the missing daughter, solve the mystery and keep the unscrupulous lawyers from getting away with what doesn't belong to them. Plus? She does it while staying true to herself. She wears dresses that she made. She wears penny loafers. She carries her special sleuthing kit with her at all times. The one with the flashlight. And the blondies. And a grappling hook. I can totally appreciate that.
What makes this movie work so well? Emma Roberts is delightful as Nancy. She shines in this role. She's got the personality to pull off a girl who likes old fashioned things in a very modern world. This is somewhat reminiscent of The Brady Bunch movie.
This is absolutely a movie that you can watch on a rainy day with the kids. It's got just the right touch of suspense without being scary. Check it out, you won't be sorry.
