A Perfect day

You know one of those long, perfect summer days with your friends? yesterday was like that. i spent i with Meredith and had one of the best days i have had here. we went to the london Eye ( a vast ferris wheel) but although it was spectacular it paled at the company. we spent from when i met her at 3 to when we parted company at 11 talking. we spoke for 8 hours. it is a credit to our long and rich friendship that this passed with out incident, pause or effort. we spoke of things important and trivial but the thing that i take from all of this is how lucky i am to have friends of this calibre.

*raises glass* to you, my old friend, and to allies in this far flung outpost.

beyond that i'm still looking for a job but i have a sense of confidence that this is going to work.

London town is really something. to sit under the great dome of St Paul's and to hear perfect voices raised in praise of God..... to admire the gold inlay in the roof (the detail is incredible).... to see the memorial to Nelson and the great victory at Trafalgar..... it was something else.

The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable.
