Name: Velasco_Myrna
Threat Level: Low
Physical Description: Female, short height, skinny build. Medium, black hair.
Known Powers: Velasco has shown a talent for stealth, but does not appear to have a supernatural gift for it. Velasco has also been suggested to be a ferocious, albeit tiny, physical combatant.
Suggested Weaknesses: Given Velasco's lack of stature, physical power and combat prowess, she could be easily defeated providing the ability to perceive Velasco in spite of her speed and stealth.
Special Notes: Analysis suggests Velasco's confrontational behavior in speech and action is merely a façade to protect herself from acute fears. A report in the minority of the analysis differs, though the lack of cogent evidence disregards this as extenuating circumstance.
Adam: I understand you being upset, Myrna-
Myrna: A façade? These people don’t even know who they’re talking about! They don’t know me… let alone what I can do!
Adam: I wasn’t trying to say this was true-
Myrna: I’d hope not Adam, I- Ooooo! I’m kick some a-!
Adam: Remain calm, Myrna.
Myrna: But I’m not calm- I’m pissed. I got Latina Rage!
Adam: Isn’t that Olivia’s trademark?
Myrna: Alright, alright… I got Female Hispanic Anger©!
Adam: Myrna- please calm down and listen to me.
Myrna: Alright- alright… for you man… but- ooooooo!
Adam: Myrna… This moment is just between you and me… what are you afraid of…
Myrna: Adam, I’m not af-
Adam: -Myrna. You're funny and everything, but this is not a joke. I don’t want an act or anything tougher than the truth. I’ll never tell anyone what you say right now- I won’t judge you or hold it against you. I need to know- for your protection, and potentially the protection of those around you- what are you afraid of?
Myrna: …
Adam: Please, Myrna.
Myrna: I’m sorry… I… honestly can’t think of anything.
Adam: Honestly?
Myrna: Yes… honestly. I’m not a big chicken underneath Adam, I don’t care what their analysts say.
Adam: You feel you don’t frighten easily?
Myrna: No. I’m not saying I’m invincible- though I’m probably pretty close- but I am saying that I’m not secretly some big scaredy-cat. I can handle anything you can.
Adam: Fair enough. Then we can save some time training on focus and get more time in for melee combat and evasion.
Myrna: Oh, can we-
Adam: We’ll practice being ninja, I promise.
Myrna: YES!
[Myrna looked outside her window at the rain as she dialed Logan’s cell phone number. She slipped on her hoodie just as Logan picked up.]
Logan: OMGz- It’s teh Myrna!
Myrna: Hey, Logan! Are you still coming over today?
Logan: Of course. I’m already on the bus.
Myrna: Already? What time is- oh wow. Alright, I’ll meet you at the bus stop in, like, 5 minutes?
Logan: Or don’t… see if I care- you don’t love me!
Myrna: Fine! I’m not coming! I hate you Logan!
Logan: I never loved you!
Myrna: Gasp! You bastard! I’ll kill you!
Logan: I- oh, I got another call Myrna. I’ll tell you how much I hate you when you don’t show up at the bus stop.
Myrna: Alright, I won’t see you there in… like, ten minutes?
Logan: Sounds right. Hate you!
Myrna: Hate you too. Bye!
[Myrna hung up and sat down to slip on her shoes.]
Myrna’s Mom: Myrna, hunny? [Myrna quickly rolled backwards and slipped behind her bed as her mom came to the door with a gentle- though pointless- knock on Myrna’s open door.] Myrna? You need to clean your room before you get going… Myrna [Myrna’s mom continued down the hallway and Myrna popped her head back up to see if the coast was clear. Myrna rolled over the bed and crept to the door to see her mom looking into one of the other rooms. Myrna quietly slid out the door, down the hall, and to the front door. When she got there, her dog was lying on the kitchen floor, placidly looking up at her. She quietly reached over to where the dog treats where kept and grabbed one. She held the treat up and her dog immediately stood up and stared at it in fascination. As the dog barked the first time for the treat, Myrna quickly opened the door to synchronize the sound of the bark with the creak. She threw the treat as she stepped out and quickly closed it as the dog barked a second time before catching the treat and sat to eat it- contented. As Myrna started jogging through her front yard she yelled back- far enough away that her Mom couldn’t respond- with:]
Myrna: Going to meet Logan, Mom! Be back later, Luv ya! [Myrna could faintly here her mom’s cries of protest, but she slipped onto the Cedarcreek Elementary School campus across the street from her house and disappeared between the buildings before her mom could make it to the front door.] Oh man… I’m so ninja…
[Myrna continued until she was moving along a small alley to get to the street that Logan’s bus would be on. She entered the alleyway that had a very dark feel to it with the thick clouds above and the spattering sound of rain filling Myrna’s ears. It all felt very dramatic to Myrna, who soaked it in and skipped through the puddles that had been forming since before she’d awoke that morning. Suddenly, Myrna heard a deep growl. She froze, looking for where the sound was coming from- behind the dumpster? -over a fence? -the pile of soaking wet cardboard boxes? The growl was deep, like a dog the size of a pick up truck. Myrna’s skip changed to a nervous walk, peering around every corner, trying to find the source of disarming growl. The dramatic scenery suddenly wasn’t impressive as Myrna's anxiety grew, becoming more than a little intimidating: alone in an alley shrouded in more shadows than she had noticed before in the midst of a backdrop of heavy rain and sable clouds. Myrna began to walk faster, trying to keep quiet while looking for the source of the growl. Suddenly, one of the trash cans tipped over with a loud clang and Myrna let out an exasperated gasp at the large canine staring at her; still concealed in the shadows, all Myrna could see was a patch of the white fur on its face. The dog was a titan- easily as tall as Myrna. It seemed to glare at her a moment, as if it was going to pounce. Myrna froze again, unsure of what to do. The monstrous animal abandoned its trashcan perch and approached calmly as it emerged from the shadows. It began to sniff around her knees and trotted around the place that Myrna was standing- probably smelling Myrna’s dog on her.
[Myrna was relieved to feel the dog begin to sniff and lick her hands where she’d grabbed the dog treat earlier, then simply shuffle away. With her senses regained, Myrna noticed the dog was even wearing a collar, and couldn’t have been more than two feet tall at its shoulder. As Myrna laughed at herself for panicking, her cell phone rang. She answered it as she began to continue her walk down the alley- trying to catch her breath and slow her heart rate as she did.]
Myrna: Hello?… A meeting?…Today?
Brittany: Myrna! Run!
"Andrea": Deal with them, I'll get Velasco! [Myrna tried to flee- three clones approached her with a mutant “Andrea” above her- but the clone of Andrea intercepted her, landing between Myrna and the rest of Canyon High’s campus with unnatural speed. With her escape route blocked and no obvious plan of action, Myrna defaulted to the part of Adam’s training in blocking and evasion. “Andrea” swung high and Myrna met her with her own forearm. A following side-swipe found Myrna moving her hand without thinking about it to block. The clone was extremely fast, but Myrna met every swipe with a block or dodge almost automatically: Right hook-sweep kick-front kick-high elbow only met with dodge-sidestep-pivot shift-deflecting thrust. Defensive technique continued to present themselves in Myrna's combat, but it failed to fill her with confidence- if she was relying on some natural skill she wasn’t fully in control of to keep her alive, there would be nothing she could do if it stopped happening: Myrna knew she needed to escape. Myrna took every advantage she could to shift their positions to give her room to escape, but, while “Andrea” was getting faster as the fight progressed, Myrna felt her arms already growing tired. Myrna attempted to take the offensive and counter the high elbow leading to a powerful front jump kick but only managed to secure her footing with enough of an opening to earn some more ground towards her plan for escape. Just as Myrna thought she was getting headway, the clone of Andrea landed a glancing blow, which- though it was by no means powerful- caused enough pain throughout Myrna's face to distract her. Myrna put her elbow into a pressure point on the clone’s forearm, but it failed to slow her. Myrna leaned back to get clear of a high swipe and shifted her balance to bring her foot over a downwards side kick that would have broken her leg at the knee. The clone got one hand on Myrna’s wrist, but Myrna “Andrea's” arm into a wrist lock and pushed away to put space between her and the clone. Andrea quickly closed the distance with a high round kick that found a mark on Myrna's cheek. Myrna went with the strike to avoid breaking her neck and found herself stumbling in pain closer to the other combatants and cornering her into what had inevitably become a two-on-one contest. Myrna reset to prepare to defend herself when suddenly her ears cried out in pain.
[Myrna quickly shielded her ears- as did the Andrea clone- to keep her head from what felt like certain explosion. With the clone focused on Brittany, Myrna took the opportunity to slowly back away from the fight. Logan, meanwhile, tried to get to his feet as Brittany finally relented, but the clone of Smitty lashed Logan over the forehead with Logan's own chain, sending him back to the ground with a bit of blood splatter from the wound. Myrna finally turned to make a break for the campus, but “Andrea” was already onto her. “Andrea” directed a powerful kick to Myrna’s stomach, but Myrna again shifted to avoid the attack, only to have her feet swept out from under her with an unperceived sweep kick. Myrna rolled and quickly threw her weight over one shoulder to, once again, get some distance between her and the clone, using her momentum to roll to her feet. Before Myrna could resume a proper defensive position, however, and the blade of “Andrea’s” hand caught Myrna at the jaw, sending Myrna back to the ground. Myrna feinted, laying perfectly still. “Andrea” took the bluff and switched her focus to stop Brittany, who was again using her conic vocal powers, though directed away from Myrna. As soon as the clone was gone, Myrna leapt to her feet and sprinted for cover between the portable buildings. Myrna remembered a “ninja trick” that Adam had taught her long before the training that had taken place more than a month ago- while playing “Lazer Tag” on campus. She quickly scaled the gap between the buildings to get to the roof by pressing herself between the opposite facing surfaces. From her new vantage point, she could hear what sounded like Adam speaking. She quickly gathered it was the Beginner.
Beginner: Shadow Assassin. I see you've captured all three of them.
“Andrea”: Y-Yes.
Beginner: You three, be more careful from now on. Shadow Assassin, come with me.
[Myrna laid quietly hoping to hear something more from them, but, after about a minute of listening to shifting and grunting, Myrna braved a visual, only to find that they were all gone. Myrna couldn’t stop her heart from racing or think clearly. She frantically dropped between the buildings, sliding to the floor, and scurried for cover in through the unlocked back door of Q theatre. She took cover in the green seats and waited quietly, hidden between the low resting chair-backs.
[Myrna waited some time before she heard any activity. She wasn’t sure if it had been ten minutes or four hours since her fight with the clones- it felt like both at the same time. When the house entrance of the theatre opened, she tired to suppress a gasp, but failed. Still, Meghan and Chyenne paid her no mind as they entered- conversing on their favorite fruits and how often they actually got to eat them:]
Chyenne: I love grapes, but honestly my mother never seems to get them.
Meghan: I enjoy grapes as well, Chyenne!
Myrna: Guys… keep it down.
Chyenne: Hello?
Meghan: Is someone there?
Myrna: Shh… It’s me, Myrna. Come up into the green seats and take a hiding place.
Chyenne: Ok!
Meghan: I like to whisper!
Myrna: Something’s going on! I was attacked!
Chyenne: What?
Myrna: Clones attacked me and- ohmigod! They took Brittany, Emily and Logan!
Meghan: Oh no! What do we do!
Chyenne: Let’s stay in here a while… it’s safe in here, right?
Myrna: I think so… I don’t know what we should do. Did Adam train you guys?
Chyenne: No… he said he wanted to make sure everyone who had a file would be trained first. We are actually supposed to be training with Adam next Wednesday!
Myrna: If we don’t play this right, you guys might not make it to training with Adam, Ok?
Meghan: Alright…
Chyenne: We just have to remain calm and collected. Let’s keep quiet for a while and see if anyone comes in. Keep an ear open!
Myrna: Ok, ok… sounds like a safe plan.
[For a lack of more to say, the frightened trio waited in silence- save for the sounds of their heavy breathing.
[After what seemed like a second eternity, Chyenne spoke up.]
Chyenne: Ohmigod-ohmigodohmigodohmigod…
Myrna: What?
Chyenne: Someone’s sneaking around in the back of the theatre!
Meghan: Why would someone be sneaking back there?
Myrna: Maybe it's one of us?
Meghan: Ok-
Chyenne: No, the theatre’s been compromised! Let’s get out of here! Quietly!
[The three slinked out of the seats and slipped peacefully through the door. Once outside, they bolted out into the middle of the grass steps. Rather than cross the aftermath of Adam and Seth's contest with the Nathaniel clone and beginners, they quickly moved away from the scene of carnage to the horseshoe pick up where they ran into Brandon and Mora.]
Myrna: HELP! [Mora’s first optic blast had narrowly missed, and Myrna had a very long way to what seemed like her only chance of cover from Mora’s laser eyes. She leapt sideways, hoping to make herself a harder target. Myrna felt the heat as it burned her hoodie pockets and burned terribly close to her waist. Her trajectory was still slightly upward- thankfully- so, rather than falling into the beam to be seared across the midsection, only the hoodie burned, leaving a hole that exposed her stomach. She hit the hillside with a roll and got to her feet quickly to get farther away from Mora. She sprinted for the Canyon gym, but as she approached, she instead came upon a Nathaniel clone attacking Sam and Derek- she couldn't involve herself in another fight.
[She ran down the gym stairs on the men's locker room side, hoping to escape through North Oaks Park, and came upon Fish, who was jogging across campus in some kind of haze. Myrna didn’t have time to be picky- she needed a friend now.]
Myrna: Fish- oh thank God! I- Fish? [Fish stopped cold without turning to look at her. He remained still for only a moment, then began approaching Myrna with a hollow, apathetic gait. Myrna easily gathered something was wrong and backed away cautiously until it became apparent that she needed to get away from Fish. Myrna turned to run, but Fish was faster and caught her by the wrist before she got far, jerking her back around to face him. Myrna used the momentum from the turn to backhand Fish across the face- unsure if she was dealing with mind control or a clone. Fish took the blow and returned it by punching her squarely in the left eye, sending her to the ground. He peered at Myrna for a moment with what looked like a regret and hurt. For a moment- it seemed like he was going to get his grasp on reality back.]
Fish: I would never hit Myrna… I’d never do that… I’m better than that… That didn’t actually happen... [-and the moment was gone. Fish regained his empty facial expression and stared in Myrna’s general direction a moment. He turned around as if she wasn’t there and resumed his jog towards North Oaks Park. With her exit plan blocked, Myrna had to rethink her circumstance.
[Her mind raced as she tried to come up with a plan, but panic had already set in and instead her thoughts were a flurry of worries and doubts that didn’t leave her the mental capacity to think rationally. She waited until Fish had passed the tennis courts and considered circumnavigating the Nate clone that was fighting Sam and Derek by used the women's locker room stairs- until she saw Derek go flying over the edge of the high ground near the gym and across the walkway to North Oaks Park and into the cover of the Tennis Courts. Myrna covered her mouth to hold in a scream, turning away before Sam’s body followed after it. Her panicked run found her on the football field, a larger, though still boxed-in area from which Myrna had no idea how she would escape. Luckily, she spotted a hole in the fence and decided that, despite the rainfall's sure delivery of a river, the only way to escape would be through the wash. As she entered through the breach in the chain-link fence, she took a sigh of relief as she came upon the one person she knew she could trust to protect her.
[Adam was truly astounding to witness in combat. Every move seemed flawless- effortless. He launched a jumping back kick, which Setheroth followed with a lower sweep kick. Adam easily jumped over it, forcing Setheroth to come up with a powerful uppercut to continue with his force, but Adam anticipated it, leaping away to distance himself from Setheroth. Suddenly, water erupted from where Setheroth was stooped, and she knew what had happened. She didn’t even think to scream. Weakened, she fell to her knees, paralyzed with fear as Adam’s lifeless body splashed down in the muddy river, almost entirely disappearing from sight.
[Setheroth ignored his second quarry, reaching down to Adam's neck to snatch up his prize- the chain on Adam's dog tags snapped easily. Setheroth then picked up the Staff of Casting, and, after a moment's consideration, slammed it into the crevice in Adam's torso hidden beneath the muddy water. Myrna was sure there was little she could do, but she still wanted to- and couldn't- move. Setheroth encroached on her position with a tired look of satisfaction in his eyes. Myrna gasped as she struggled to find the air to back words she couldn’t put together.]
Setheroth: I promised him I’d kill each and every one of his friends after I left the battlefield. [Myrna sat, helpless, just beyond the fence that served as a make-shift entrance to the wash- leaving Myrna sitting a foot inside the “Arena” to which Setheroth was referring.] I guess it’s your lucky day. [Setheroth passed her as if she was nothing. Myrna began to sob, first to be rid of his presence, and next as she finally realized what had transpired. Myrna screamed; her scream echoed through the wash and football stadium. She screamed as hard as her body would allow- her throat hurting and her body shaking as she did. She screamed until her body could no longer find the energy to scream any longer, allowing her to be able to weakly crawl towards Adam’s body. Hesitant, she reached out for Adam's hand. Adam had been known for his warmth both in his presence and his actual physical self- so warm that with a good hug he could warm a person to their core no matter how cold- but Adam’s hand was already icy to the touch.
[Myrna tried to pull him up, but was not strong enough to lift Adam's full weight. She frantically scrambled and tried harder, but still to no avail, slipping on the wet cement on the side of the wash and falling into the putrid water below. The water beat against her tiny frame, flowing much faster than it seemed to when Adam and Setheroth were fighting only moments ago. She struggled to stand to avoid being engulfed by the fast moving shallows, but no sooner had she done so when she once again found herself without her strength. Myrna was covered with blood- Adam's blood. She needed help; she wanted to fall onto Adam and hold him close, but at the same time was repelled by Adam’s blood mixing with the muddy water. How could one person have so much blood? All at once, she became certain that it was no longer Adam that she could hold for comfort as all that remained was Adam's body. Myrna stumbled back and fell onto her side on the cement slope, sobbing hysterically with what energy she had left.
[When Seth arrived, Myrna couldn't hear him. She couldn't see him try to ask about her; she couldn't see him discover Adam's body; she didn't notice the other theatrites arriving; and she didn't know how they reacted. All Myrna felt was the cold of the rain, fear, and loneliness that Adam would never hug away again.]
