i decided to give up lorwyn limited in favor of reading comics and playing wii. so far this is working out wonderfully. (wow, do i hate lorwyn, but i'm not going to go into that rant since there are probably plenty of people still enjoying the format) currently i'm reading the original stan lee/steve ditko run of amazing spider-man from 1963.
i have a big soft huge soft spot in my heart for old school cheezy 60s marvel. i'm not exactly sure why. the science makes no sense. the characters are corny. i still just can't help appreciating it though. (i love b-movies too.) i should have started a quote page when i started reading the series. some of the panels are just too hilarious to believe. like i can't believe stan lee wrote some of this stuff.
besides all the cheese, the series is one of the most groundbreaking ever. steve ditko and stan lee created a new, memorable, and entertaining villain on literally a monthly basis. spider-man is lucky if it has a new villian in a year now. and these are classics that are still used (to death) to this day. like in the first 9 issues they created classics like the chameleon, j. jonah jameson, the vulture, doctor octopus, sandman, the lizard, and electro. and of course spider-man himself who i've always considered the best superhero. (ok, maybe there was a time where i loved the silver surfer more) they also did some really cool things with the supporting characters and quite possibly the first issue of any superhero comic where the hero doesn't even fight a villain.
quote of the day
amazing spider-man #22
the ringmaster: but, you need a leader!!
princess python: sure we do! someone clever, and crafty! someone who can think on his feet-- who people will trust! someone like-- the clown!
