perhaps its true what edt says, that people only post to livejournal when they are miserable. not that mine is right now. not yet. things have been going well and they look like they will keep going well.

still dating zee. still living on the east side. still playing mtg. still working for dan bock industries. still not lovin police. still rock my khakis with a cuff and a crease. still got love for the streets.

its the DRE

and if you want some recent detail, here is my

weekend went pretty well. drafted fnm friday night. 3-0ed with a sick little b/u deck. my love affair with riftwing cloudskate continues. i was brainstorming cloudskate standard decks after the draft. it's actually really sick in constructed. i made a casual monoblue pickles/suspend hybrid on modo and was doing pretty well against the real decks with it. i predict skate will be in every blue deck in six months. i should have had them in angels. got a flagstones and a bogardan hellkite too. i have a lot of fun going to fnm at misty. sometimes i dont even play. i have a new crop of apprentices who will soon be terrorizing ptqs. that's right! elf bitch, DEATH STAR, and whopper jr. are going to be kicking all your asses soon enough. did i mention i gave them all ridiculous nicknames? note to self. need to think up ones for jasper and tom.

i was told to end up at the dane on friday night. i headed downtown to possibly go there, but decided to swing by the dise first. not too many people were there. emdubb was there and i sat and talked to her and decided to order a bunch of fried food. then severa and a couple other friends found out i was at the dise and came to me! score. had a pretty good time munching cheese curds and hanging out. never did get around to the dane.

saturday, i took a road trip with joe vesel down to dubuque, iowa to play some texas hold'em. it ends up dubuque is only like an hour from madison, so its pretty much like a trip to potowatomi. not that i ever go there either. this was the first time i had been there. the rake was $5max a hand which is very steep. most casinos around here do $4. maybe there was a bad beat jackpot i didnt know about. the casino only had two tables running most of the time. a 4/8 limit game and a 10/20 dealers choice game. we both played the 4/8. i ended up in the best seat at the table. the two seats to my right had one guy who would call any ace-rag all the way to the river and an asian guy who kept chasing his gut shots. asian guy kept getting very lucky. then every time he went a more than 3 hands without getting lucky he would yell at the dealer to wash the deck.

best hand of the day. i have the infamous "dennis" 46o and i decide to raise these two donkeys because they are of course the only ones in the pot. and i did have the dennis. you can't just fold or call with that hand. everybody folds and the two of them call. these guys both thought i was tight and asian guy loved betting and checking in the dark every time he was first to ask. so as soon as they call, i throw a 5 dollar chip in the middle to tell them im betting the flop. the flop comes out (8-7-3 rainbow)and i realize the first guy didnt actually see me doing this and was reaching for his chips to bet. then he sees my chip in the middle already and decides to check. i quick reach in and get my chip back as the asian guy is checking and check it through. they both get this look of shock on their faces and i realize they both actually wanted to bet. so of course my free card is the miracle 5 giving me a straight. and donk #1 of course bets out. asian guy calls and i pop them. and now they dont know what the hell is going on. the both figured i had ak when i took my bet back. of course they both call me on the river too. (a blank i cant remember) ah the dennis. you do it again. i just realized that if you dont count the rake. i actually won $64 off of them on that hand. coincidence?

got home and there was a decorated christmas tree in the living room, paper snowflakes on the window, and a smiling zee working hard on her computer. and i ended up winning like $70 at the casino. cuddled and chatted with zee a bunch after that. overall a great day.

today i played some mtg. i decided to just netdeck a deck for the misty extended tournament. i settled on Gerardo Godinez Estrada's 5-1 Gifts Rock deck. The deck played out pretty good. Although a lot of his numbers seemed a little awful and i have no idea why anybody would run a gifts deck of any kind without sensei's divining top. i went 2-1 losing to affinity. and beating an affinity and a psychatog. my draws the second time against affinity were pretty awful. the matchup actually seems pretty easy. haven't gotten to play vs. any boros yet. levi and i retooled the deck afterwards. i added 3 tops and an engineered explosives. im also trying out ghastly demise instead of smother. the only creature i think you really want smother for is psychatog and i dont think it will get played that much. also there are many other answers for tog. i cut the birds and played more lands and the 4th wall of roots also. (also trimmed it down to 60 cards) current list is like so....

4 cabal therapy
3 sensei's divining top
4 wall of roots
3 sakura tribe elder
3 living wish
3 eternal witness
3 gifts ungiven
3 loxodon hierarch
2 deed
2 putrefy
2 ghastly demise
1 vindicate
1 engineered explosives
1 ravenous baloth
1 withered wretch
1 genesis

4 windswept heath
2 polluted delta
4 forest
2 swamp
1 plains
1 island
3 overgrown tomb
1 llanowar wastes
1 breeding pool
1 temple garden
1 godless shrine
1 watery grave
1 golgari rot farm

don't have a complete sb. i wasnt entirely impressed with his. i'll probably keep his wish targets with the addition of a bounce land in case of mana screw.

sb
1 meloku
1 kataki
1 eternal witness
1 loxodon hierarch
1 withered wretch
1 ronom unicorn

his board had a bunch of cards i dont agree with. like krosan grip over naturalize or oxidize. im sorry. this deck just doesnt seem to care about counterspells. plus he had no haunting echoes or nether void. he played extraction instead which i've always thought was just worse than both of those cards. he was also playing global ruin which seemed like an odd choice to me. the whole deck seemed overly concerned with control. he had a baloth to wish for too. which i think is overkill. choosing baloth or loxodon seems better.

now im lounging about on the new laptop i got last week at zee's parents' house while she grades papers. hopefully i'll remember to post again some time soon. i have magic to talk about so chances of me writing improve.
