Ah, something happened to me which didn't even happen during my college search.
That's right, I've been waitlisted.
Waitlisted for a non paying internship.
Can we even fathom this for a second? There are enough people who want to work- for free- for a moderately successful moderately un-douchy politician as to merit the creation of a waitlist.
can we even think about this for a second?
We, the current college generation, are not only willing to work for free (sigh, okay, if that's all that's left) to not get paid for 40 hours of work a week, but we *beg* for it. We submit really pretty resumes and writing samples on letterhead which mentors have looked at just to make sure it's Just-so, We spend hours on job search, we hunt *them* down when they don't respond to us, email them again and again. (hey what's going on guys?) and then, we get waitlisted because lets face it, there are so many people who desperately want to work for free as to merit a waitlist! And they're all stronger applicants than I am, to boot. They're all talented, smart, MBA-bound, self advocating Wave Of The Future Types. They're coming from Harvard and Yale and Brown and Wesleyan and Tufts or wherever, they're dropping 40grand a year to double major and lead everything, And they're willing, nah thats not even the point, they're BEGGING to work for free.
The job market is so bad right now, employers with any sense of (either real or promoted) liberal mentality are up to their eyeballs in willing and thankful young, hardworking psuedo-slaves! (thank you sir, may I have another?)
Oy! That's such a trip!
