I decided to put down some thoughts before too much time passed. No matter how much I think I might remember something, it will slip from my overtaxed mind.
On Spring Break I spent a day at the Philadelphia Flower Show. I was a little worried that my landscape architect snob mode would be in full force and that I would look down my nose at the mere garden designers. Happily I was a much better human being than that and I learned a few things:
1) Sometimes it's really nice to ooh and ahh at pretty things without having to think abotu the subtext or the latin name. It's a pleasure I foolishly deny myself far too often.
2) Rainbows are wonderful, as is the color wheel. 1600 square feet of orchids arranged by color is breath-takingly spectacular.
3) People love a circus. The faux tiger made up of mondo grass and coleus got everyone staring, even though I don't think it was particularly well executed.
In putting together the design for the exhibits at the botanical garden I am working on, I need to remind myself that bold moves are sometimes good. Populist does not necessarily mean that I've only met the most common denominator or that I've created something base. I need to lighen up a bit.
