So gross!!!!

Babies are gross. So are their 7 year old brothers.  So when said 7 year old forgets to flush the toilet after peeing and the mobile and curious babe sneaks into the bathroom, there's trouble.

Cut to me quickly but gingerly picking my way across the bathroom floor avoiding puddles so I can scoop up the happily playing baby.

Next, cut to me picking bits of used toilet paper off her cheek and out of her hair.

As I'm plopping her in the bath I have to do the requisite scolding of the boy, but it's all I can do to not burst out laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation.  Besides, it was my fault in part because I basically let the kids run feral today.  Why? you ask.  Because I had to spend a good chunk of time on the computer and on the phone ironing out the closing date for the house we're buying.

That's right!  We finally have a closing date.  It's Friday.  Yup, this Friday.  As in not quite 72 hours from now.  There were a whole pile of delays in buying the house and we were just waiting for one last piece of paperwork to clear up. Now that it's done we can zoom ahead.

I think we're going to pack up a moving truck with about half to two-thirds of our stuff on Thursday, drive to Steve's mom's house in NJ, spend the night, then head up to Ithaca on Friday.  Hopefully we can close early enough to get most of the truck unloaded before dark.  I plan to hire many strapping college students to make the job go very quickly.  We'll spend the night and some of Saturday, then we'll head back to NYC where we'll camp out in a mostly empty apartment while I try to do whatever repairs the apartment needs to be ready for a renter.

We'll spend a couple of weeks in NYC getting Steve's studio packed up and showing the apartment, then we'll head up for good.  By mid-December we'll be in we'll be in our new house, sitting cozily around the fireplace while we gaze at the Christmas tree and the snow falls around us. And we'll be eating fantastic Mexican takeout while sipping coffee from the best roaster we've tasted in years, all the while knowing that it's all costing us a fraction of what life cost us in NYC.  Merry Christmas, indeed!
