Why I'll Vote Democratic

Nov 02, 2008 20:01

No, that's not a declaration because I don't know who I'm voting for. It's the title of an email I received this evening. This is the crap I am so fed up with. The misstatement of positions, the generalizations that try to paint an entire group of people as Godless or feeding off the deaths of unborn fetuses. I am sick of the pandering to the lowest denominator and to our baser instincts. And I am also tired of "we", the citizens, biting into their plan.
This is the email I got tonight:

Is there anything (like this below) about McCain??

Something??
Anywhere??
Anything??

Can someone show it to me??

WHY I'VE DECIDED TO VOTE DEMOCRATIC

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I'm voting Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four pointy headed elitist liberals need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, they'll come over here, and I don't want to have any guns in the house to shoot them with.

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

Makes you wonder why anyone would EVER vote Republican, now doesn't it?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And as usual I couldn't keep my mouth shut so this was my reply:

"I don't send out political rhetoric because that's exactly what it is: Rhetoric and not fact.
It is counter productive and teaches people that it's easier to believe the spin than it is
to actually investigate the candidates themselves.

If you believe any of the things below then yes, please absolutely do vote for McCain and then remind yourself that this past republican administration - and I AM republican - was the most corrupt in the history of the US AND ran your deficit up higher than it has ever been.

Believe the spin or investigate the truth and make an INFORMED decision"

Now I've probably lost a friend over this but so be it. There's a lot of anger out there and I've been on the receiving end of both democratic and republican ire. Republicans don't think I'm conservative enough and Democratics think I'm a shill for the GOP. Yes, I was actually called that simply because of my party affiliation. And before you ask, I AM republican and proud of it.

It still has to begin somewhere and if not here, now, with us, then where? You think the guys profiting from this spin are gonna change?
