Ra Ra Riot

I almost forgot to inform you all (whoever is still reading this) how the Ra Ra Riot show went!  I'm getting forgetful in my old age.

Meryl and I got there before the first opener and got a beer each.  I was happy to see the show was sold out, but I knew that meant the Basement was going to be pretty crowded around 10.  Anyway, the first band came on, Princeton.  They were pretty good.  They played what I thought was innocent music, kind of like Vampire Weekend (ew, Vampire Weekend is nasty!) but not nasty like Vampire Weekend.  The band was fronted by two identical twins who were identically witty.  A few songs into their set, Meryl wasn't feeling too well, so we ditched our spots and beers to get some water.  After a few glasses and some sit time, she was good to go.

SIDE NOTE FOR PERSONAL REFERENCE
People I ran into: Martin and Gab

After Princeton came Maps & Atlases.  That creepy English teacher we saw walking around, you know, the one who was REALLY into Thoreau, was the lead singer.  Awkward!  Anyway, their set was really intricate; they used a lot of hammer-ons and pull-aways instead of strumming.  I got used to it and wasn't so amazed after a few songs, but they were really good.  I think they could use a different lead singer, but who am I to judge (but I am an ameture critic, so I will judge away!)  They were good and I enjoyed them.  Their EP was okay, nothing fantastic, but they were good live.

Then Ra Ra Riot came on.  I haven't really heard their stuff beforehand.  I came to this concert because I haven't been to one in a while, this one was cheap, and I had an amigo to go with.  Ra Ra Riot knocked my socks off.  They were incredibly good.  So many instruments!  Their CD is pretty good, but the lead singer has a great live voice.  I would highly suggest going to a show if they stop at a venue in your area!

That's about it.  I successfully avoided working on my resume again.  Time go to find a quiet place to read and drink coffee before class.  Later.
