Head Automatica, Clay Your Hands Say Yeah

May 16, 2009 00:46

I haven't posted in a while.  I think I'll start using livejournal as my concert recap blog from now on.  I have a lot of history in my archives so I don't want to get rid of it, but I'm too lazy to start a new blog to dedicate to concert recaps (and I have several here already).  So here goes:

I wasn't totally feeling this concert tonight.  I went out with Dave and Gretchen (whom I work with) to Mad Mex's happy hour, so I wasn't really in the mood to go to a show by myself.  The only real reason I did go was because it was free.  OSU puts on a free concert every quarter paid by our student activity fee.  This quarter they decided to make a weekend festival featuring differeny genres of music on different nights.  Wednesday was the Ark Band (reggae).  Thursday was Kid Cudi and the Cool Kids (rap).  Friday was Head Automatica and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (indie-ish).  Saturday is Augustana and Dashboard Confessional (crap?).  I don't have any obligations tomorrow so I'll probably go to the A and DC show out of boredom.

I saw Head Automatica a few years ago when they opened for Taking Back Sunday and Angels and Airwaves, so I knew what to expect.  The major difference between shows was the first time it was outside, and this time it was inside.  After half of their set (I showed up a little late) my brain was slam-dancing against my skull.  That's why I only stayed for one song of CYHSY.

HA was good but loud.  From that one song I heard, CYHSY was great.  I wish they would have played first because their set was wildly less offensive to my cochlea.

I still don't feel bad about leaving early thought.  I didn't pay to get in and I aparently didn't have money for merch (or beer).  Perhaps I'll look more into CYHSY so I'll regret not having stayed.
