For the second year in a row, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving here at home by ourselves since my father has decided he'd rather enjoy the company of his girlfriend's son's family.
Screw him! Here's what's on tap tonight:
Cajun spiced Cornish Game Hens -- I am the hen engineer this year. Last year I tried a basic recipe that worked well. I'm just going to tweak it a bit to get some cayenne flavoring in.
Garlic mashed potatoes -- Another project I'm in charge of. I've got lotsa potato-peeling ahead for myself today!
Green peas -- The only in-the-bag product we'll be using tonight.
Apple pie -- Direct from one of the Apple Hill bakers in Camino, CA. Should be tasty!
Pumpkin pie -- Tina's specialty. I'd give you some, but there won't be any left by the time I'm done with it!
As all these components come together, there will also be much imbibing of egg nog and Bailey's Irish Cream. (It gets the creative juices flowing!). There will also be football and movies somewhere in there as well.
In summary, it should be a great day here. I'm a bit bummed we couldn't coordinate something with my brother's family, since they have no interest in the GF family dinner thing either, but they're going to be sidetracked with my sister-in-law's family for part of the day. I think next year I'll try to organize a meeting place, maybe up at Lake Tahoe, so we can all get together as a family again.
Hope everyone else in the US has a great day! :)
