And I don't like it at all. The lyrics sound like she literally sat down and was like this songs going to be about crystals and this ones going to be about tectonic plates. Its like shes using a bunch of metaphors that don't mean anything. I would be more forgiving but even the production sounds like crap, and I hate how there isn't much song

She's recorded songs with simple instrumentation and with simple metaphor for a while (Anchor Song, Cover Me, Headphones, Unravel, An Echo, A Stain, Pneumonia, My Juvenile). With the design of this project I got the sense that each song would be rather spare in instrumentation intentionally; in part to sound best on an iPad where lots of layers may sound awful and in part informed by the educational component (it's hard to make music & music-making apps accessible if the songs are too complicated). I'm glad she's revisiting the music for the CD.
As for the metaphors present in the new songs - they are there and to me they speak volumes, especially Moon. Crystalline has me thinking there's a nod to the LGBT community (including them into nature) the way she pronounces "Con-queer claustrophobia and demand the light." Also, the mentions of, "it's the sparkle you become when you conquer anxiety," points to everyone, but could resonate with a LGBT audience that experience difficulties with just being in the world. Virus is just beautiful and interesting take on a love story. Our world rejects most bacteria and viruses and this song seems to include them back into nature by recognizing their natural drive to survive and pass on to the next generation.
