bjork volta tour - opera house forecourt, sydney

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

Bjork delivered. I queued at 4.30 (the show was said to start at 8), and managed to be just two people away from the stage! There was a lot of waiting a little delay ("the artist is running a little late") but it was worth it.

The crowd at about 7pm. The gig started at 9. And of course, the famous Sydney Opera House. The gig was just outside in front of the steps (on which people are sitting).

Bjork was wearing a gold and silver dress with ruffles, her hair free flowing and her forehead painted. She looked fantastic! I didn't realise she was so... small.

There are pics at bjorkish, but they have been incorrectly labelled as Big Day Out Sydney, which is yet to happen!

The band were great. They were all having so much fun, you could see their joy and hear it in the music. The reactable was fantastic too! Glad to see they were using Macs :P

I can't remember the setlist - was too busy enjoying the show, but I'm sure someone has recorded it. She delivered all her great songs - no crap whatsoever (does she have any crap? Subjective I suppose).

My highlights
- Show opened with "Earth Intruders". Great choice, lots of energy
- Pagan Poetry - fairly early in the set, but I loved it.
- Joga - how could I forget this. Fantastic!
- Army of Me - just a fantastic feeling
- Cover Me - during this song, she was right in front of me!!! She was standing next to her pianist, and she was dancing around with her mug. At one point, the side of her mouth twitched, and me and a few people just laughed. So cute.
- Hyperballad/Pluto - a crowd singalong to Hyperballad, and a mix into Pluto. So much love!
- Plenty of tracks from Medulla - Pleasure is All Mine, Desired Constellation, Oceania. A bit disappointed that she didn't play Triumph of a Heart. Oh well!
- Encore - Oceania (quite suitable for Australia!), and Declare Independence. Ended on a high note, and left us wanting more.
- All the fans were great! Except for one chick who tried to push forward by "accidentally dancing" towards the front. But the crowds were always sensible and keen, and full of really eager Bjork fans.

Just fantastic, though it would've been nice if the gig was what, an hour longer? One can dream... I get to see her again on Friday night though at Big Day Out! WOO!

EDIT: The setlist from the Gigography at bjork.com, which is right (from my memory):

01. Intro - Brennið Þið Vitar
02. Earth Intruders
03. Hunter
04. Unravel
05. Jóga
06. Who Is It
07. The Pleasure Is All Mine
08. Pagan Poetry
09. Desired Constellation
10. Army Of Me
11. I Miss You
12. Bachelorette
13. Cover Me
14. Wanderlust
15. Hyperballad
16. Pluto

encore
17. Oceania
18. Declare Independence

And something that sucked. Security kept standing up on blocks in front of us at the barrier. They also tried to pull people with cameras out of the crowd to kick them out... which was fair enough but they were just too persistent. Stupid jerks >:(
