Well, now I’m back in south Germany after a week trip around Europe.
Last week (tuesday) we drove through Munich and to Vienna, where we got lost for one and a half hour (yay!). We finally found our way to Katarina’s place. I was very tired after driving for such long time in such heat (we were driving an old Citroen car which had NO A/C!) so we took a shower and went out to have cold drinks.
Next day we walked around Vienna with Katarina, through the shopping area to some other cool places with old buildings and stuff (yeah, I’m horrible at remembering what buildings are what).
After a long day outside we took the train to Katarina’s. We decided to just stay inside and relax. Next morning we decided to continue our trip down to Croatia. We drove through Slovenia and in the middle of that country at some very very small village one tire on the car started to act weird and we ended up changing the tire at some auto repair shop, and I think we met the only English-speaking-person in Slovenia there, he was very nice and did it all for free.
Around 9 pm we arrived in Rijeka, a city by the ocean, very beautiful, built on a hill. Found a restaurant/pizzeria (all restaurants were called pizzeria there) and ordered very good pizzas. They cost like nothing... the pizza was like 400 krónur, or around 5-6 dollars.
Drove around to find a camping place nearby the city, which we finally found in the dark (man, it’s hard to find stuff in the dark). It was unbearably hot in the night and in the morning around 8 am we woke up bc it was too hot. We then packed down and drove to Krk (yes, it’s written like that, try to pronounce it!). Btw, I didn’t understand any word in Croatia except “Royal cheese burger” (which is a quarter pounder or Mcgóðborgari) and “Voda” which is water.
Krk is an island closeby, around 1 hour drive. It was a pretty interesting place, and of course I will try to put up some photos as soon as I get home. We sat down by the ocean and ate some and drank, then I ran into the sea and it wasn’t cold at all! L which was a bummer, bc I was dying of heat. We’re talking 32-36 degrees celsius, sun and no wind everyday. 30-32 degrees during night-time. No airconditioning system in the car.. So we were pretty hot all the time.
Later we took a walk downtown Rijeka and ended up getting a hotel room because of the heat. Went out that night and had a wonderful time. I had this pasta thing with those very expensive mushrooms that only pigs can find.. is it Tariff? Then later went to a cocktail bar/place. It had so many varieties that you just had a very hard time deciding what to get. It was like 10 pages of only cocktails, had a few and went home to cool down... well, the hotelroom wasnt even cold so.. a cold shower helped.
Next day we drove by the coast of Croatia towards Projec, a city close to Slovenia and Italy.
On our way there we stopped at a small restaurant just by the country road, it was like a village having around 5-6 houses. We had fried squid there, and oh my god, it was delicious! Best squid I’ve ever had.
In Projec we camped and walked around the city, the city was full of tourists and lots of shops and everybody was trying to sell you icecream by throwing cones at you, a weird salesmen trick. It was beautiful there, and the weather was very nice, it finally rained a little that night so it cooled down just a little, making us able to sleep until 9am.
Our journey continued towards Trieste in Italy and then to Venice. Stopped in Venice for 2 hours and that city is just... so romantic and BEAUTIFUL. I’m definitely traveling there one day and stay for at least 5 days. Then we drove to a city north to Venice, called Treviso. There we found no camping place nor a hotel. So we went downtown there and sat down there and had cold drinks (I must have drunk like 3-4 liters per day during this trip). The city was so alive at like 10-11 pm and it was a Sunday! It surprised me a lot. We finally found a hotel closeby the city and stayed there for one night.
Next day, yesterday, we decided to drive to Verona and then maybe Milano, but after only 2 minutes of driving we had a car accident. Chain accident, car 1 decided to just stop very quickly because someone wanted to pass the road, and the car in front of me, car 2 crashed onto car 1 and I crashed onto car 2. The thing is when I hit the breaks it was like being on ice, the tires were horrible, so we just slided right onto the car. We were only driving on like 30-40 km per hour so it was nothing severe. Just a little mental shock and the fact that the car was very crushed in the front and it wouldn’t start. So the police came and no one spoke English nor German, so we didn’t understand much. The car started later and we were able to get back home to Germany, telling the owner of the car, Annette’s brother, what had happened. I felt very very bad about this. I have never had an accident before and it was kind of a shock for me. But we are OK and I’m glad that nothing worse happened than this.
So now we’re back home and planning on going to France on Friday, to Montpellier (south of France). Coming back on Tuesday and then I will leave next week, on Thursday I think.
I hope this blog entry wasn’t too long, but there is much more to tell than this, which I won’t write here, since yeah, I’m not really into writing a book about this trip, hehe.
I hope you’re all well and I’m looking forward to see you all very soon.
Kisses and hugs from Germany!
