Kyuubi Rant

Aug 02, 2007 18:48

Alright, I'm going to rant about the Kyuubi. You know it's very theraputic, I think. After ranting about NaruHina, I'm totally over it now. I've said everything I needed to say about the fanon-couple and now I'm bored with it. It's good to get that out of your system, and silly to get so worked up over it.. but I guess I probably wouldn't have ( Read more... )

lol, I can't agree more. Perhaps I wouldn't find it so grating if every fic didn't feel the need to make Kyuubi's speech bold throughout the story. Use ALLCAPS or italics, but there's something about bold in an actual story that just sets me off.

Not that I don't love having a good source of vicious sarcasm and snark to assail Naruto throughout a story, but the Kyuubi doesn't exactly come across as chatty when we see him in the manga. Unless you count "Come here and die so I can be free to destroy shit!" as demonic smalltalk.

Totally agree about the bold. And I also hate it when authors start their stories with: Sakura's though and Sakura's speech and Inner Sakura's thoughts. I'm like, you don't need to highlight if you clarify it in your actual writing! BLARG! The reader's not that stupid... and if they are, they should probably not be reading that story in particular.

Oh, I love vicious sarcasm and snark too. I can see that Kyuubi might, as the bonds upon him errode, start to emerge more and more as Naruto loses control. Especially while Naruto loses control to his emotions, since that's when Kyuubi usually shows up. And, it might even fuel that anger with its own hatred and emotions steeped into the chakra. It might even make exceptionally hilarious comments and very graphic/bloody remarks. But would it be intentionally witty or snarky or humorous in any way... probably not. It might do it accidentally, I can see that happen eventually...

Naruto: I'm totally pissed off!
Kyuubi: Do it, kid! DO IT!
Naruto: Blinks. Suddenly have a really ( ... )

Same here. I've yet to see such a disclaimer in a authentically published novel, so obviously some people have found a way to distinguish all these "voices" from each other without resorting to insane type.

Kyuubi: ... steamed Fuck!!!! You little--

Hehe. So long as it isn't "kit" I can deal with whatever Kyuubi calls Naruto. While I do realize that "kit" is the appropriate name for fox cubs, it always reads to me like some I'm-so-clever shortening of kitsune which hits my Fanboy/girl Japanese Peeve like a hammer. Meh, I prefer to stick with the tried and true "brat" "whelp" or "sniveling human excrement."

As for a point you were making below: Japanese mythology is NOT Narutoverse mythology

Oh how true. There's certainly some blurring between the two, but as of yet we've yet to see kitsune really appear in the manga. Kyuubi, like all bijuu so we're told, is a demon of pure chakra. Yeah, it has a ( ... )

As we watch... bjfactory November 11 2007, 21:01:32 UTC
As we watch Naruto expand upon the eye powers more and more, that last theory of yours is gaining ground. What with Jiraya said in the last chapter concerning how Kyuubi's attack was suspicious and "Tobi" sitting on the monument where "he" may have once faced off with the founder of Konoha... whose necklace Naruto wears and, Sasuke, interesting the actual leader of the Akatsuki...

Ohhh... ahhh...

Then again this storyline's been foreshadowed since Sasuke's first actual battle with Naruto at the falls... huh.

Hear hear! Or is it here here?

It's debatable if the kyuubi would still have a sense of humor left after being stuck inside a kid for thirteen years. I'd be a very cranky person if I were in his shoes, and it's really important to look at the context of these things in conjuction with the circumstances. If the kyuubi did still have a sense of humor left, it would be very dark, very violent, and very bloody. Following that line of thought, options 4, 6, and 7 are null and void.

One thing that I really hate seeing is the kyuubi being written as female. Who happens to decide that Naruto is in deperate need of mothering. (Let's not encourage the boy, shall we?) I can't quite figure out where people get the idea that the kyuubi has a single mothering hair on its theoretically-existing head!

Hehehe, I liked your Kyuubi. I'm glad Inner Sakura wore him down like that. But yeah, Kyuubi's not a fun-loving fox who's everyone's favorite uncle, once removed, come back to do good in the world and was wronged and became "evil" but isn't really "evil" just misunderstood ( ... )

Ah, man. I usually try to keep myself from joining in on any form of negativity, but this is just so dead on! I can't tell you how many times the flow of a decent story has been broken by the greatly italicized, "Kit!" Oh, the sugary dialogue (and more) of the great Kyuubi. People often think of the Kyuubi as some wild card plot device to exploit. But Kyuubi is a character, too, with particular characteristics and speech style.

The moment it's been shown to be able to speak it became a character! Just because it's a monster doesn't mean people can just do whatever the hell they want with him! That's what's so damn annoying! I totally agree about the wildcard thing. People act like "they" came up with the idea of Kyuubi or ignore the fact that Kishimoto showed enough of Kyuubi to give a basic structure of Kyuubi's personality even if not backstory has been provided - and maybe never will be. But the point is, the Kyuubi talks a certain way and speaks about certain things. It taunts Naruto about being weak, about not having power, about it having the power that Naruto desires, and it's constantly trying to talk its way out of the ( ... )
