Philosophical thoughts..

Oct 17, 2006 05:09

So I just finished having a very theological and philosophical discussion with some of my residents about politics, religion, and what have you. It's brought up some more possible thoughts on different issues. For example.
In our dorms, we have health services come in and talk all about sex, and using condoms and what have you, but the minute something "religious" comes in, they are super against that.
Now, when it comes to religions, I understand there are so many out there that it might offend someone. However, who's to say that the use of a condom doesn't offend someone or their beliefs?

It seems so funny to me that this "idea" of contraception is so much more "OK" with society, and the idea of "religion" (christianity to be more specific) is looked upon as "insensitive" and "intolerant" of others. Who takes into effect the insenitivity to those religious people who find contraception to be against their religion?

Same goes with other things. It's okay for students to walk around with satanic worshipping shirts and such, but the mere words "One nation under God" has people absolutely terrified and upset.

I'm pretty sure this entry didn't have a lot of flow, as it is 1:19 AM, and I have been up since super early. However, I needed to write these thoughts down before I went to bed. Feel free to do with them as you will. =)
