Last weekend I woke up on Sunday at 11am (very late for me) with a doozy of a hangover and feeling like I had left my brain about 10 people deep in the crowd of thousands watching Beck's astounding performance the night before. As I was trying to pull myself together and prepare some breakfast, I asked my roommate a question that had been on my mind since I had checked my email a bit earlier. "Did you pay 2 months rent?". She responded "um... I guess, I don't know, why do you ask?". "Well," I responded, "Dominic sent an email saying you paid through September." She looked at me like I was growing hair on my face (which I might as well have been) and said "Yeah, um, yeah. I paid through September."
It wasn't until I was driving to a work-related party hours later, with a slight feeling of dread at the idea of holding my own with all the wicked smart university faculty and administrators and librarians who would be there, that I realized. It's September.OMFG it is September. How the hell did that happen? Oh, and as long as I'm asking questions, where the hell did I leave my brain?
That's all to say that the past few weeks have flown by. I made another trip to Portland and spent another amazing weekend at the farm. Canoing, "hiking", cuddling with dogs, laying in the sun, drinking all day, eating fabulous sushi with a group of totally metropolitan girrrlz, what a way to live (or at least take advantage of a 3-day weekend!).
Last weekend I spent one day at Bumbershoot and 2 days recovering. Not really, but almost. I also spent a lot of time catching up on laundry, reading, and reading some more. Oh, and shopping, ugh. I needed a new fancy outfit for the impending doom (I mean the NWILL conference) and also ended up picking up some more stuff because the sales were awesome and I've gone down a size since moving home.
Wednesday I went to the Rickshaw for the first time, for
kcorstel's last Karaoke night. It was more fun than I ever expected and I spent the first half hour giggling and being thoroughly amuzed by the whole surreal experience (if you've ever been to the Rickshaw on a weeknight, you know what I mean).
I think that's all the highlights from the past couple of weeks. Oh, at Bumbershoot I saw Neko Case (I am so in love I want to turn lesbianic and then marry her and have her babies), Thao with the Get Down Stay Down, a little bit of some rock guitarist guy who was pretty good, the second half of Band of Horses, and Beck. Neko was my reason for braving the Bumbershoot madness and I thank her. I had an amazing time and want to go back next year. I also might want to volunteer, which means I'm going to have to rope
rimrunner into going out for a beer with me so I can pick her brain about what it's like. Hehehe... the first pitcher is on me!
