I'm staring at the asphalt wondering what'd buried underneath

Am getting a bit nervous. About a few things.

On Friday and Wednesday (yesterday) we were sent home early from work due to low call volume. On Friday we were given the option to come in on Saturday and make up those hours, but I was already committed to work at Mac Reunion... so yeah. I went home at noon and was at least able to start work at Reunion early. Interest rates have been going up, which means fewer people are calling to refinance... they're probably better off where they are or are waiting for rates to go down again. Which also means less work for me, which makes me nervous since that means I'm not doing my job and soon might not have a job to do. When we were hired we were told the job would last 3-6 months... and since I started work in mid-April, 3 months is mid-July. I hope they don't string us along and have us working 15 hours a week or something... guh. Must start saving more. I guess I should be looking for other jobs as well, but I still don't know what I want to do and temping is working out well (except for the whole "go home early" thing...). They haven't said anything to us yet about our immediate future... hopefully call volume will jump soon or they'll train us in more things so we can be useful while waiting for calls.

Also tryouts are this Sunday. I feel pretty good about them in general, but I'm peeved about how my skates fit and afraid that Aunt Flo might come to visit soon... the first 2 days I have NO energy reserves, am in pain, and even after taking pain pills am shaking  and useless. I skated a bout on my first day once, and was feeling better and ready to go after an hour of skating, so maybe it would be OK... but am still nervous. My skates are really loose around the ankles and heels, and despite being a 5.5 in men's sizes might actually be too big for me. Tying the laces tighter at the top tends to cut off the circulation in my feet or cause pain that I can feel even the next day. I can't seem to find a happy medium between too loose and too tight. I mean they're fine, I can still skate in them, but I just don't feel as confident in my crossovers/jumps/etc. We'll see how they pan out while doing actual derby. I have been lusting after these for a while:

...but they are $500. WANT WANT WANT. I've talked to a few rollerpeople who have them and they have done lots of raving about their awesomeness. I'll probably have to choose between these and a trip back to Scotland (would choose Scotland). Or maybe I'll loose my job and get neither and have to quit derby because I have no insurance! Heeeyyyy!!

Working Reunion was fun. Some of the student workers were lazy annoying betches, so that hasn't changed. Some of them were super-helpful reliable sweeties too. It was super fun to see people again... including my old bosses and student coworkers. I got to do lots of golf cart driving (apparently I am a fast/crazy but accurate driver hahaha... Amelia wouldn't let me drive when we had glass in the back but HEY I WOULD'VE SLOWED DOWN I SWEAR). It felt good to be constantly busy and useful. Andi gave me a few rare compliments too, which was nice. It rained all day Saturday, but I was prepared... galoshes, jeans, 2 sweaters, and lots of those plastic disposable rain ponchos. I stayed overnight in the dorms too, which was special. My room smelled like gerbils. As usual, I enjoyed the free food and took a bunch home at the end of the weekend. I finished my Shish leftovers yesterday (I never liked Shish until I had that chicken kebab thing... omg yum... and that garlic and lime paste? mmmm!) and got a pink geranium that I need to water. This year there was a Trads reunion too, so it was so nice to see men of all ages roaming the campus in plaid jackets and garish ties (with their wives and kids in some cases... nyaw).
I never got to see them perform (saaad!) but I got some free Trads CDs they were giving away. One of them has the live version of Joey and the Trads doing "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight"... it's so amazing and gorgeous. I looked at the CD sleeve and it turns out it was arranged by Mike Vasich, which is probably why it's the best song on the CD. I remember they turned out the lights while singing it... shivers! Sigh nostalgia etc.

I've also been doing lots of skating. Jessie and Kat (Tea Garden peeps) are trying out as well, so I've been helping them get kitted out. Got a great deal on some vintage leather skates for Jessie, and she and Kat are both borrowing my extra wheels and bearings. Will probably sell to them later. We skated Monday and Tuesday night, and they're both looking better and better. I'm ze proud papa! (Venture Brothers quotation station, yesss).
Excitement! Minnesota Rollergirls tryouts are this Sunday, and North Star Roller Girls tryouts are 2 weeks after that, on the 27th. I'm trying out this weekend, but I think Kat and Jessie are going to wait for NSRG tryouts. Wish us luck!

And I saw Denise's kitten last night. O. M. G. Too cute for words. Well here's a few: tiny, fluffy, salmon-smelling... fell asleep right by my cheek... green eyes... super loud purring...  me melting from the cuteness...
