Norman Lindsay: Drawn to Women

Jan 09, 2007 10:30

On Sunday I finally got to the Norman Lindsay exhibition at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Not what I expected at all.

I was expecting to see drawings of nude women and not much else. While there was plenty of naked women, the extensive amount of pagan characters and references was outstanding!

I loved his usage of intense contrast between light and dark, with so much detail hidden in the dark.

The characterisations reminded me of the illustrations of my childhood fairy (and goblins and elves) tale books which were illustrated in the olde English style.

Not what I expected at all, but far exceeded my expectations! Absolutely brilliant!!! I love what Lindsay says with his art!

If you are not easily offended, this is a must see exhibition, but closes next Sunday so hurry! And don't forget to look in the shadows!
