Day 1

In your own space, talk about your Happy Place-the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

My happy places. I really have no one happy place, but, they all have 1 thing in common. They center me. They give me peace and food for my brain.

1) believe it or not is Mermaid Theatre.

Why? Because Little Mermaid has been my favorite Disney Movie since it was released. Anything that has anything to do with under the sea, I'm so there. But, Merms (as we who work the show/building affectionately call it) theatre is a cave (quite literally, Disney themeing), it's dark, it's dank (It IS a cave. LOL), and when the show is happening, it's 17 minutes of downtime for me. I've seen the show so many times (and I still love it) that I can tune the show out (I don't have to monitor the show itself, just the guests inside the theatre. I just need my eyes for that, not my brain. LOL), and let my brain wander to places like the USS Voyager (Which has become another happy place, but I'll get to that in a minute). I've had many wonderful story ideas or scenes come to me inside the theatre. It's been great for my fic writing. LOL

But also, it is a place for me to catch my breath when the guests or fellow cast are especially moody or crazy. I can sit in there alone, in the dark, while the guests are watching the show, and just.... breathe. Merms will always be one of my happy places simply for that reason.

2. Star Trek: Voyager has become a happy place. The characters, much more than Star Trek TNG have really settled in and become 'old friends'. I've been a Trekkie since Season 3 of TNG and as much as I love TNG, Voyager is the Trek that truly speaks to me. In the last year, since I re-found it, I've written over 60K of words for Janeway/Chakotay because OMG you guys, these two people. <3

They've really reawakened my writing muse and I love it!! I hope I can keep it up!

3. That leads me into the third happy place and that is the J/C fandom. I have never found a more open minded, more tolerant, and more accepting group of people in fandom. Ever. And I love them. It is a fandom that loves hardcore angst (My personal fic kink) and fluffy saccharine (sometimes in the same fic!) and they are a wonderful group of folks to talk to. It just makes me happy to know they are there and supportive and totally awesome. I'm hoping that in this new year, I get to know them better and that we all share lots of wonderful fic about a pairing that really, really, desperately wanted to happen, despite the crappy way it was treated in the end by canon. (ugh)

4. Starbucks! Starbucks is my happy place because I can go there. Find a table, get my laptop out, put on headphones and just literally disappear into my writing. I resurface every so often to get another hot chocolate (I cannot medically have caffeine) and go to the restroom. But otherwise... I can spend 8 hours in my corner tuning out everything but what I'm writing and it's glorious. :)

So there you have it. My happy places.

That said, Happy New Year everyone! My only new year's resolution this year is to try to get 100K words in by Dec 31st of 2019! So I have 365 days to go!
