Don't let LJ do this to us!!!!

This is really important. Please please go sign this and hopefully the LJ PTB will get a clue that we're not all 16 and want LJ to become a My Space clone. *shudder*

What sparked this? This *great* new update for our Unser info page (that really does not need updating) lj_design top post about the new user info. Check out their way to see how yours will ( Read more... )

What bugs me is they're planning on launching a separate service for adults. And where does that leave us long-time adult LJ users who have signed up for permanent accounts or automatically renewing yearly accounts? Can we just transfer to Vox? And given that most fandoms center around LJ nowadays, is this going to serve to ghettoize fandoms by age, with teen-only communities on LJ and adult-only ones on Vox? (Granted, I think a lot of people could stand a few less squeeing teenies in their fandoms, but we also don't want to keep out the *mature* teenagers).

Exactly.. that pisses me off too. We've both got perm accounts. And I really do not think they know exactly how many of us non-teens they have ON LJ. Its like they have NO clue of their user base.

Kinda reminds me of the reason that AMC cancelled remember WENN. They were bitching because the show had the wrong demographics.. completely missing the fact that the demographics that Remember WENN had would have made NBC drool all over itself. Feh.

Well...

I have a myspace page, and I can't say the new LJ profile page really looks like it.

It is a bit impersonal... sorta removes that whole HTML section, near as I can tell, so that's not my favorite. But otherwise it looks like all they really did was divide the info into two columns so it's a bit easier to see. I mean, there are no divisions in the interests between TV shows, books, movies, music, and "miscellaneous." There's no "Who I want to meet" section. No "pictures of my top 8 friends" section... that's the main stuff I don't like, really, at MySpace. I really just see normal LJ stuff re-arranged. So I'm not sure why you hate it so much. Unless it's the absence of the HTML section (which, interestingly, MySpace offers a lot of options for coding the profile page, so really it's a lot more flexible than an LJ profile).

oops, I'm even wrong about that. My HTML section is there when I look at mine. So... I'm losing nothing.

The biggest problem is that the Interests are at the bottom, the user bio and info is on the right side, rather than the left.. enphasizing everyone's friends, and for those of us with, as someone put it, "plus sized" friends list. They are not there at all. All I get is a link to the full icons page with the friends listed as when they posted last... which does me absolutely no good when I want to read a certain person's journal. It would take me forever to find the link to their journal. Plus, Its too cluttered and I like my user profile page exactly the way it is. Usefull to not only me, but other people as well. The way they want to change it renders my user profile page completely useless to me, since I can't see any of my friends.

You saw that they're scrapping the two-column idea, right? And that the whole post yesterday was about getting feedback on design, not about screwing everybody over?
