le sigh...

i know no one cares besides me, but Discovery is not going to land today. =(

i went down to NASA Ames research center to watch the shuttle land, but it got waived off for the 2 possible lands for tonight.

i'm not sure what the news is going to report as the actual reason why the shuttle was given a "no go" for landing, but i know it, cuz i was watching it when they decided. So here it is, straight from the source. The first time it was because the weather... there were clouds. This meant it failed a requirement for landing in that the runway must be visible. This has been a rule for quite some time, i believe. The second time around, everything was a "go" officially. Everything was ok, and the weather was clear enough and all systems were go. Ultimately they decided that the weather was behaving too unstable or unpredicable so they scrubbed today's attempts and so we gotta wait another 24 hours.

So officially you could say it was because of the weather, but really they were just being cautous. Tomorrow is s'posed to be better weather.

Um... i am really tired so i am going to go crawl into bed. I will leave you with a joke that one of the NASA guys told a group of other NASA guys plus one me.

There once was a flight heading from London to New York. Halfway during the flight, the captain suddenly comes over the intercom system...

"This is the Captain speaking. I have a bit of bad news for you. We have lost our first left engine, but never fear, we can still make it using only three engines. But because of the loss of power, we will be two hours late."

Time goes on, and once again the PA system crackles to life...

"This is again your Captain. We have lost an engine on our starboard wing. But rest assured that our plane can fly using only two engines. Due to the reduced power, we will now be four hours late."

The flight goes on, when the passengers hear the now familiar sound of the address system...

"Guess what, folks! Now this has never happened before, truely unbelivable, but we've lost another engine. Nothing to fear. We can still make it, but now we will be six hours late."

On hearing this, an elderly lady turned to the person sitting next to her, and says: "I hope we don't lose ANOTHER engine. We'll be up here for ever!"
