My kitchen is clean! That's not a regular occurrence, so it's sort of cause for celebration. It's only part one in my war on this flat, and the easiest part at that. It's my birthday next Saturday, which means people will be coming here and I'm already in panic mode, wondering how I'll have time to make this place presentable in time. And I only have a kitchen, a bathroom and that other room that serves as everything else. That's how bad I am at this stuff. And how messy it is.
My biggest problem is that I always make it such a huge project, I want to start making it right from the ground, which means organising my wardrobe, all my DVDs, papers, buttons... If I only get all the little things right, the big picture will be easy as pie to set straight. The end result is that all this microcosm sorting only leads to making everything messier, with piles of stuff everywhere, so I usually end up with my flat in a worse state than it ever was.
So yes, I have a lot of things - a lot of books, a lot of yarn and other crafty stuff, a lot of CDs, DVDs, plastic unicorns and earrings, but I like that. I could never be one of those people who threw away anything they haven't used in the past 6 months or subscribed to the Scandinavian sleek interior design, free of clutter (and personality). I love clutter, and I do think that less is never more, MORE is more. Plus - things are FUN! What would I do without my Halloween Smurf collection or my pink swan's-down flamingo? It's just that I need a bigger place. And more shelf space. And possibly a butler.
