we're one pig's head short

The philosophical question about whether people are inherently good or inherently evil is one that will never be answered. This, I think, is because the question is as so many others is wrongly formulated. Humans aren't inherently good or evil; they are inherently stupid and/or selfish.

My reasons for believing this are threefold and are to be illustrated by none other than Jared Padalecki, the tv series Jericho and uhm... people (or possibly jelly beans, I haven't decided):

1. Seriously, being angry at Jared for cancelling Asylum is about as stupid as it gets, and judging by the posts on LJ people are pretty fucking stupid. The man got a job, and let's face it, he is no way near big enough (physically maybe, but not otherwise) to have the power to reschedule filming just to go to England and meet fans. We've all heard the stories about how much he loves his fans and what lengths he goes to for them, and I am absolutely sure that he would never back out if he had the possibility to go. So, nobody outside America's ever heard of Kinkade and by the look of things never wanted to (he paints Graceland in fairydust light for christ's sake - can we say hötorgskonst my Swedish friends?), but it's an awesome opportunity for Jared. He gets to be in a movie with Peter O'Toole!!! That is not cat piss. Not at all. And again, it's not like it's up to him when the filming starts, nor is he in a position to do anything about it.

That being said I plunge right into the selfish pile and confess that I am royally pissed off and completely devastated, because DAMN I WANTED TO MEET JARED!!! But I can't be pissed at him even if I wanted to, I'm just really, really angry over the situation. I will probably never have the opportunity to go to a thing like this again, so the fact that he might come to a later event really doesn't help. And yeah, I'm sure it will be great fun anyway and we'll party and drink and... But frankly, if I just wanted a fun weekend, I could do it with a lot less planning and work and a hell of a lot less money here in Sweden. I wanted Jensen and Jared, and that's it. Sure I knew it was a risk as it always is with conventions, but that doesn't mean I don't have the right to be angry about it. (And to clarify, I'm not angry at Wayne either, he couldn't do anything about this.) As far as replacement guests go, nothing but JDM will make my convention happier. I don't give a rat's ass about Smallville and no matter who they get from that, they won't be of interest for me. In Supernatural there is Daddy Winchester. I mean sure, Nicki Aycox is cool and it will be nice to meet her, but I never ever would have bought a ticket for her. She's a good bonus guest, but that's it.

So, I am selfish. I want what I wanted and I intend to be pissed off about it for a very long time. However I refuse to accept people ranting about Jared and Wayne, like it's their fault. We have a right to be disappointed and angry at the situation, but not at them. I'm sure they did their best, we knew the risks, this is how it goes.

LIKE IT ALWAYS DOES: TO HELL

2. Jericho. This show scares the hell out of me. Not because of the atomic bombs or Ravenwood or terrorism or what the fuck ever, but because it REALLY show that people are indeed inherently STUPID. If this is how it goes when societies crack and we have to go back to basics I hope that I die in the crash, whatever form it takes. Because DAMN, I want to kill every single character in that show except for Skeet Ulrich and that's just because he is pretty. Don't get me wrong, I really like the show and I can't wait to see how it goes, but I find myself cheering for every character that bites the dust. THEY ARE ALL SO STUPID. AND SELFISH. AND I WANT THEM TO DIE. A part of me believes that this is what human nature is at its core, when it's not fancied up by all of society's rules and regulations, but I hope with all of my heart that it's not. It's Lord of the Flies in a modern costume and without the pig's head. But at the same time it's uglier and nastier than that because it's even more selfish and even more stupid and they try to make it look all civilized which just makes it look more foul, kind of like trying to cover up a bad smell with perfume instead of washing up.

Watching the show I kind of hope that it wouldn't turn out like that in Sweden, that what happens there is the result of being an American small town (with the emphasis on small town). But considering our new government and all that they stand for, and the fact that people actually voted for them is proof that I am wrong.

3. Have you ever met people?

As for the jelly bean explanation, I have become addicted to them which is seriously bad for my diet. Which is proof that I am stupid. Sadly we only have a generic mix here in Sweden, I want all the cool flavours you guys have. Not the vomit and earth worm kind though, thanks to the youngest Mr angelofmir I've already had the misfortune of tasting them.

jelly beans, asylum, jericho, selfishness, stupidity, people, jared padalecki
