Okay, I'll bite. (Really, it's not a theory, just musings...)
Do we really think that Widmore wants to kill Smokey-Locke? Given that Widmore was banished from the Island, I'd guess there's no love lost between him and Jacob. And it's suspicious to me that he and Ben were both trying to help Locke get back to the island. Did he want Locke to actually return to the island alive? (Sure, Ben was the one who killed Locke, but that seemed like more of a spur-of-the-moment decision. Who knows what would have happened had Locke stuck with Widmore's people? And of course, there's no love lost between Ben and Jacob either, but he was trying to help Locke return before that storyline really went off the deep end. The really suspicious character in all of this is Eloise Hawking, but I've got no clue on that one.) Maybe Widmore just wants to help Smokey get off the island so he can have it to himself.
That's an interesting theory, Clone. That's some... musings, Clone. ;-)

No, I'm not convinced Widmore wants Mocke dead. Of course, we don't know if Widmore was banished on Jacob's orders or just because Ben wanted him gone. As for Ben, he wasn't trying to help Locke get back to the Island, he was trying to get himself back. After last week's episode, I think Ben has repented (at least in part) of killing Jacob. I would see him supporting Jacob over Mocke in the end.

Ben was totally trying to help Locke get back to the island. Because he wanted to get himself back. (And now that I am remembering more, I'm pretty sure he actually wanted Locke to go back as a corpse.) I suppose it depends on your definition of "help."
Quite honestly, I wouldn't support Jacob or Smokey. They're both manipulative a-holes. But Jacob is obviously the lesser of the two evils.

That's what I meant. Ben only wanted to help Locke get back because he thought it would help him get back. Helping Locke was the means, not the end.
Yeah, Jacob seems to be the lesser of two evils at the moment, but I'm withholding too much judgment for now, until we know more about their motivations.
