From The Uncanny X-Men #179-- art by John Romita Jr. and Dan Green. Say, isn't it illegal to show a 15 year old character in this state? Apparently not in 1984.
I might be wrong (as it's been a long time since I read that issue) but I don't recall that there was any sexual violence in this issue, or even the threat of it. Granted that the Morlocks were trying to get Kitty to keep her promise to marry one of their own, but from what I can remember of that character he was something of a big innocent with kind of a kid's crush on her. Certainly the dilemma Kitty ended up in wasn't an easy one for her to deal with. I thought both their plots and characters were nice and three dimensional at the time, although I'll grant you I was pretty young myself.
In H.G. Well's The Time Machine Morlocks lived in the very distant future but in X-Men there was a sort of tribe of mutant outcasts (many of whom where non-human in apperance) who lived underground in the NYC who called themselves Morlocks (as an homage to H.G. Wells and his universe).
These Morlocks lived underground in modern times, in the X-Men comics. Of course, the Morlocks of H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine" lived in the future -- and also underground, if I remember correctly. Maybe that's where the comic creators got the name?
It surely has been a theme in all areas of entertainment over the years. There was a rape threat scene in the last episode of "Firefly" that still makes me shudder every time I think of it -- and that was from Joss Whedon, of all people.
Joss Whedon switches on and off between powerful and in charge female characters and vulnerable and threatened female characters. Maybe that's part of the tension of his series.
I wanted to ask you, what's you're address. I'd love to send you a copy of the Fray graphic novel.
I've heard there's a lot of debate in feminist circles over -- I'm not sure how to put it -- whether he's one of their heroes or not? Probably not the best term.
As Buffy would say "deer pretty, snow bad." Yesterday was awful here in upstate NY, I was snowed in but apparently we got off easy compared to a lot of the country. Amazon.com is pretty tough about date entry--I think I managed though so look forward to the FRAY graphic novel (it's pretty good.)
I'll look forward to it, assuming the postman doesn't get snowed in. :-) Actually, we also got off easy compared to a lot of the country. I suppose we have five or six inches of snow on the ground right now -- not nearly as much, or as cold, as many other areas.
Okay, have I mentioned lately what a wonderful person you are? Fray arrived today -- just in time for me to read it in my sickbed! Finally I'll get caught up with what's going on with that universe, after hearing so many people talk about it. Thank you!

By the way, loved those new pics on your photobucket -- even though I'm generally not in favor of snow. :-)
