In a Washington D.C. hotel room the radio played a live broadcast of a sermon being preached by the evangelist Eli Sunday.

“Satan is a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour,” the preacher intoned.  “A roaring lion.  Seeking who he may devour.”

Paul Sunday, Eli’s older brother, lay on the hotel room’s narrow bed.  He was naked, ( Read more... )

You did well to get all the voices right. Very tightly written. Well done.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I'm glad you liked it. I loved this film and I sort of feel bad messing with something so good but I feel like there was a lot of buried psycho-sexual stuff going on that I wanted to bring out.

I agree. I saw a lot of that as well just under the rage.

I saw There Will Be Blood last night and was pretty much blown away and so of course I went fic-hunting. I didn't really have any high hopes of finding much but then I stumbled across this and... was yet again blown away. :)

It's a great fic you've written, all gritty and dark and very much in tune with the film. You've managed to capture Plainviews voice and menace wonderfully. Loved it!

Thanks so much. I felt a bit audacious writing this-- TWBB was such an incredible film-- so I'm really pleased to know you liked it.

Mmf, but this is good. Dark and gritty and disgusting. The sort of story that sinks under the skin and stares there like a scar, which doesn't sound much like a compliment, but trust me- it is. Well done you.

Thanks so much. I understand perfectly what you mean about the story. I have pretty mixed feelings about it. Part of me is sort of proud of it, part of me is completely horrified that I wrote it.

Mm, that was just what I needed. Very interesting, I've never read anything that featured the character of Paul in it. Or Paul/Eli and Paul/Daniel for that matter! Extremely well written. I can say that I enjoyed it very very much. Will you write more?

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I'm glad you liked it. I would like to write more TWBB stories. Eli is present in this through Paul's memories but I'd like to write something that deals more directly with him and his antagonism with Plainview.
