In 1990 IBP opened a slaughterhouse in Lexington. A year later, the town had the highest crime rate in NE. Within a decade, the number of serious crimes & Medicaid cases doubled. "We have 3 odors-burning hair & blood, that greasy smell, & the odor of rotten eggs." Hydrogen sulfide rises from slaughterhouse wastewater lagoons, causes respiratory problems & headaches, & can cause permanent damage to the nervous system.
