this weekend, it was 70 degrees and sunny. Today, the lows were around freezing. The weather is obviously strung out on some illicit substance. My guess would be heroin. Moving on

On Work: I spent half an hour engaged in a battle of wills with a temperamental shredder. Victory was mine in the end, as was a sneezing attack brought on by exposure to paper dust.

On Vermont: With Victories, Gay Rights Groups Expand Marriage Push Legislative overrides = Vermont for the win. The amount of pleasure I take knowing the pain this causes to social conservatives is proably slightly unhealthy. What makes it even better? DC Council Votes to Recognize Gay Marriages Performed Elsewhere leading some to claim DC is going to become a den of sin, bringing the scary gays upon us like a plague, etc. mean, seriously. become a haven? Have you people been to Dupont Circle? The bigger concern is whether this will result in an increase in the number of vocal idiots protesting this move, forcing resources to be allocated to dealing with them which could be used for, oh, I don't know, my mass "sterilize the stupid" plan.

On Secretary Gates: Pentagon Chief Takes Aim At Big Weapons Plans color me impressed. I had the opportunity to attend a town hall with the Defense Secretary last summer. I was struck then by how honest he seemed. It is easy to find political creatures speaking here. It is harder to find ones who answer questions directly and challenge the establishment which spawned them. I enjoy having competent people in power.

On the Personal Front: I had a very interesting email from Oslo today. It seems like my life might actually be working ot, as far as the deep-seated masochistic tendencies that drive me to relocate to parts of the world where the weather can best be described as a cold, rainy mess are concerned. Stay tuned!
