two different worlds
*part four
Jonghyun struts down the stairs lazily, dragging his feet towards the dining room before Taeyeon is able to raise her voice once more. “Noona, you’re a singer. Stop screaming around the house” He advices between frowns and seats himself onto the chair. Taeyeon rolls her eyes, “I’m not some classy celebrity, Jjong”. Jonghyun looks at his sister with a pair of disbelief eyes as his right hand reaches for the cold metal of the cutlery. “Eat” Taeyeon says with a dignified voice, and they do eat, only in a comfortable silence accompanied by the clinks of the plates and cutlery.
Jonghyun suggests that he does the dishes, only to have Taeyeon eye him with much suspicion. “What do you want?” She says, leaning on the kitchen counters and folding her arms in front of her chest. The younger brother smiles sheepishly, it’s almost blinding enough, he replies with an eager voice, “Let me stay out late? Mom and dad aren’t home tonight anyway”. Taeyeon thinks for a moment, carefully thinking it through and sighs.
“Just come home by dawn”
Minho rubs his eyes as he walks out of his too-big-to-be-called-house house and thinks that he should have napped in the afternoon to regain some needed energy, instead of playing soccer with a bunch of beginner-level footballers. He drives his convertible car down the quiet streets and stops at an all-too-bright place: the club. He hears someone call his name, in which he only nods in return. He enters the place with much ease (by flashing a little card, a little smile and some tip-offs) and he hears the loud beats of the music. It fills his ears completely, his heart thumping accordingly -- something that he has always liked.
The amount of people shuffling in and out of the place, and the amount of women giving him the same bedroom eyes never changes, he smiles a little bit. He walks further in, and he feels the best part of the entire place -- the smell of the intoxicating alcohol that fills the air. Minho slides past a few groups before finally reaching a familiar figure. “You’re here pretty early, Jonghyun hyung” He says, sneaking at his new watch. Jonghyun gives him a huge grin that resembles so much like a little boy given candy, “Noona gave me permission out late”.
Minho gives him a pat on the back, a silent congratulatory message. “But noona said I had to get her that Valentino dress down at the Louis Vuitton store because she’s going for senior prom this year. I looked it up online, the price is -- dude, are you listening?” Jonghyun jabs the younger boy by the ribs, who has his attention somewhere else. Minho points and Jonghyun sighs, “Does it look like I’ll be able to know who you’re pointing at in this kind of crowd?”. Minho turns towards the older yet shorter boy, “The boy with the metallic pants, you ass”.
“He looks vaguely familiar” He comments while massaging his temples. Jonghyun grabs a glass of alcohol the bartender hands him, “Don’t go hunting for a man now, isn’t Soojung enough for you?”. Minho resists the urge to smother his senior’s face in the bowl of chips beside him and decides to ignore the vaguely-familiar man. The two sit at the corner of the club for the rest of the night, without a round of dancing, but with a few rounds of a drunk Minho letting out all his stress mainly caused by his new little girlfriend, Soojung.
Jonghyun can only listen in amusement at the vixen in Soojung’s personality.
Minho wakes up with a throbbing, shattering and splitting headache the next morning. The smell of alcohol fills his nose, sending a sharp wake-up alarm into his brain. He sits up and hears the creak of the bed. He looks around and realizes that familiarity of the house. “Jonghyun hyung” He groans, his voice deeper than usual. Jonghyun stirs a little bit beside him, Minho shakes him awake. “Get me some headache pills, I’m mentally dying inside out here”
Jonghyun sits up grumpily, his hair disheveled without the excessive wax he usually uses and a frown between his forehead. “Get them yourself, it’s in the usual drawer down at the kitchen. Minho mumbles a few curses under his breath and gets off the bed with another creak, he limps down the stairs from Jonghyun’s bedroom. Before reaching the last step of the stairs, his nose catches a sniff of something that smells like food. “Oh, good morning Minho! You came home drunk in Jonghyun’s car yesterday, he called me. I drove your car over, if you didn’t mind”
Minho smiles a little, “Thanks noona. Do you have some headache pills?”
Taeyeon points at the table, at a glass of water and two tablets. Before Minho is able to take the glass, Taeyeon returns back to the kitchen counters, “Oh and your phone rang over and over, as if it was about to explode. I picked up the call, and the other person didn’t sound to happy with it”. The glass stops at Minho’s lips, “If my memory doesn’t fail me, I’m pretty sure the caller was Soojung”
And Minho knew that hell awaits him.
Minho finished the breakfast Taeyeon had made, in less than five minutes, he grabbed a few clothes out of Jonghyun’s closet (with the elder boy retaliating) and darted out of his house after thanking Taeyeon for the breakfast and help. He slips into the car, turns on the engine and speeds off. He decides to buy a bouquet of flowers on the way before continuing down to the Jung house. He makes a smooth turn to the right, the squeak of his car wheels are heard and he stops. He smiles and gets off the car.
“Young Mistress Soojung will be back home in two hours time,” Some butler had told him, Minho decides to explore the house once more (to rephrase: to find for a certain pianist), he does find the object of his interest. If there was one thing he could do right now, that was to sketch and paint the beautiful sleeping figure. “Being a peeping tom is your hobby, isn’t it, Soojung’s boyfriend?” Minho straightens up immediately, and if his eyes could go any bigger than it already is, it would have. He smiles awkwardly.
Kibum rolls his eyes and sighs, “What are you doing here, exactly? Soojung isn’t home, so can’t you wait quietly at her room or something”. Minho is about to come up with some sort of unbelievable lie, before he sees the metallic pants of Kibum’s. “Hey, those pants” He says without thinking. Kibum stops before opening the door completely, “What, you want them? They’re Marc Jacobs, if you want to know”
Minho chuckles airily, “That wasn’t what I was about to say. Weren’t you, one way or the other, at the club last night?”
Kibum turns around and slams the door shut unexpectedly, Minho flinches slightly at the sudden roughness of the feline boy. “I don’t know what you saw last night, but if you tell anyone that I was there, I’ll personally see to your death and I’ll make sure there will be no funeral held for you”. Minho puts up his hands, as if a form of surrender, “Hey hey, calm down. How about a deal with me?”
Kibum’s eyes soften and he calms down, Minho takes the chance to speak, “You don’t stop me from looking for Taemin, it’s easy, isn’t it?”. Kibum’s eyes widen slightly and is about to retaliate before the door creaks open, “Kibum? You slammed the door! Is everything alright?”. He turns around to see a little boy scratching his head in his PJs, “Oh, uhm. That is, uh, er, well”. “Good morning, Taemin-ssi!” Minho chimes into Kibum’s lack of witty replies.
Taemin straightens up, but eyelids still shut close, “I recognize the voice! Min-ssi, was it?”
Minho chuckles and side-eyes Kibum who looks as if steam is about to spoof from his ears, “My name is Minho, Choi Minho, but you can call me Min if you want”. He whispers softly to Kibum, “Do we have a deal, or shall I tell everything to this cute little boy here?”. Taemin tilts his head slightly, “What are you guys whispering about?”. Kibum grabs onto his arm and grips onto it, hard. “You have a deal”
“I’ll bring you your breakfast, Taemin. Just wait inside with Minho” Kibum grunts through gritted teeth.
Taemin nods slightly with a worried expression, Minho guides him back to the room. “I didn’t know you were such great friends with Kibum-hyung!” Taemin chirps happily. Minho shrugs, but remembering that the poor boy is blind, he replies, “Oh, we’re great friends. Thanks to your sister, Soojung”. Taemin giggles slightly, “Soojung has lots of friends, doesn’t she?” Minho raises an eyebrow, “You don’t even know how many boys there are, like cats waiting to pounce on her at a right time” Taemin’s mouth forms into an ‘o’, “Then I’ll have to ask of you to protect my dongsaeng!”
“That’s not a very hard job” Minho chuckles.
“Taemin? I’m coming in” Kibum knocks on the door before opening it with a tray of breakfast dishes in his hands. “Oh, I forgot the milk. Could you please help me get it from the kitchen, my dear Minho?” He plasters a smile on his face and walks with absolute elegance while handing the tray to Taemin. Minho gives him a short glare before answering with an absolutely high-toned ‘of course’ and exiting the room. Taemin, however, oblivious to all this, can only think that the bacon smiles nice and I’d like to drink some orange juice too.
