In was a night in September
and all through Chicagoland
everyone was hopeful
except for cubs fans.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of bratwurst danced in their heads.
When on the TV, the channel ESPN
I saw a man, named Ozzie Guillen
And what more did my wondering eyes did I see?
but an entire lineup of the sox baseball team
The fans cheered and they roared, and onto the field they came
and the announcer now spoke, calling them by name:
Now Pauli, Now Crede!
now Uribe and Buerlhe!
On Rowand, on Iguchi!
On Posednik and Pierzynski!
Peanuts and Beer was what the fans did fetch,
and during the 7th, Nancy played the Stretch.
They hit home runs, and strikes were what they pitched
until the post season was finally clinched
They rose from the dugout with a thunderous cheer,
while Cleveland now knew it was not to be their year.
The corks were popped, and the champagne did fly
while from the scoreboard, fireworks rose to the sky.
The White Sox were champions in two thousand and five
