From Granada, we drove to Alicante, a city that sits on Spain’s southeastern Costa Blanca, it is also a popular beach holiday destination amongst the Europeans.
The apartment we stayed is well located, 5 minutes walk to the local mercado and just 10 minutes to the beach, both my favourite spots in Alicante.
We were there for 2 nights. On the first day, we strolled down La Explanada de España. It is Alicante’s main promenade and is constructed of 6.6 million(!) red, cream and black tiles.
So many amazing artist. This guy was just using a pencil to fill in the hair stroke by stroke.
We just picked one of the restaurant along the promenade and had a simple tapas lunch.
Spoilt for choices

Our lunch
After lunch, we explored the old town which I did not think it has much. With a supermarket right across our apartment, the girl were again craving for home cooked food. So dinner was in our apartment.
* * * * *
We explored the beach town more extensively the next morning, starting with their local market - El Mercado Central de Alicante.
This market has two floors and they sell almost everything one needs. Seafood, meat, vegetables and fruits, dried food, can food, pastries, cheese etc etc.
Love how this stall display their vegetables and fruits.
We bought seafood for our dinner that night.
There were also a row of florist outside the mercado on the second floor and cafes too.
We had a leisurely breakfast outside the mercado.
Andrea broke her only pair of glasses and we went to the optical shop to get her contact lens.
With the mercado just 5 minutes away, we could just walk back to drop our groceries.
Next place we explored was the beach. We walked around a bit first before getting to the beach.
Right in the background is the Santa Barbara castle.
Just walked down the ramp and there’s the beach.
Where we came from..
The water is still cold!
She decided she wanted to read on the beach.
Seong found a nice cafe facing the beach and we just parked ourselves there, sipping sangria, eating tapas and playing card games.
The little one was just so reluctant to leave the beach.
After a few hours, we walked across the road to take the elevator to the Santa Barbara Castle (166m above sea level). The view from the top was breath-taking.
That’s where we were earlier
We went a little snap crazy but it was really beautiful up there.
We played a round of memory game at the Santa Barbara castle too.
Dinner was home cooked.
Lemon and cheese Ravioli, spinach tortellini in asparagus sauce, fried eggplant and zucchini with prawns, fried bell peppers with chorizo.
Wholesome meal to end an awesome day.
Our apartment in Alicante - The Lucky Flats - Pintor Sorolla. Simple apartment but it was comfortable and clean.
