Driving to Montreal

We embarked on a over 5 hour drive to Montreal today.

Everyone woke up early (residual effect of jet lag) and we had a simple breakfast at our apartment before checking out around 8:17 am.

The little one had her hair styled by her eldest sister and was complaining that it's not what she wanted. But she's just in such cheery mood really.

Seong driving the car out of the garage onto the road. The side street is pretty tight.

All ready for the long drive.

It is a rainy day and not a bad thing to be in the car. We were in good time and reached the half way mark resting place at around 10:45 am. The rest stops along the way are known as Onroute. They aren't as interesting as those we came upon in Europe though. Most restaurants are fast food joint and the one we went to only has Burger King and Tim Horton. And I learned on this trip Tim Horton is a Canadian multi-national fast food restaurant known for their coffee and donuts. It has over 4000 joints in 9 different countries. It was originally founded by 2 hockey players and one of them was Tim Horton.

The drive along highway 401 was pretty uneventful. Not much scenery except occasional solar panels farm which got Andrea pretty excited.

Speeding fine signboard along the highway.

In Montreal, we are staying in this neighbourhood Saint Laurent. The apartment that we stayed is quite pretty.

We were pretty hungry and went for a mid day meal shortly after we checked in. The restaurant we chose was Via Marcello. I like it for the fact that we can just park right outside the restaurant and food was good.

Very good Italian food!

It was almost 5 pm after we finished our meal. It was dark and rainy so we decided to just check out the neighbourhood grocery store before going back to the apartment.

I read that before Saint Laurent merged with the City of Montreal, it was the second largest city on the island. Now, it’s the largest Montreal borough. Saint Laurent is the second largest economic hub outside of downtown thanks to major companies like Air Canada Centre, Air Transat, Bombardier and CAE all headquartered
