Peak to HKU

I did an easy walk today with YB and SP from the Peak to HKU.  We took no 15 outside Hopewell Building and made our way to the Peak.  We started the circular walk from Lugard Road all the way till the intersection of Harlech and Hatton Road.  This was when we took Hatton Road and followed the direction of Pinewood Battery.

I read that Pinewood Battery (松林炮台) is a historic military site constructed in 1903 and it's located 307 metres (1,007 ft) above sea level within Lung Fu Shan Country Park.

And so we were in Lung Fu Shan Country Park.  This is the smallest country park in Hong Kong, about the size of 47 soccer fields.  The major highlights of this country park are the old forts and war relics.

The trail from Hong Kong University (HKU) to the Peak is known as the Morning Trail.

To get to the Pinewood Battery, we had to decend quite a number of stairs and we were wondering if we need to take the same stairs back up.

There's a picnic and barbeque area.

And this must be an old fort.

There are signboard along the way that provides information about the Japanese invasion in Hong Kong in 1941.

It also explained more about the Pinewood Battery.

We didn't venture all the way to locate the pPinewood Battery as we were dreading the stairs back up.  So we retraced our steps and continue on the morning trail.

There are toilet facilities towards the end of this trail.

From here we reached Conduit Road, took a left turn, crossed the road and walked towards Hong Kong University.

We passed by this nice yellow house and there is a big green naval gun within the compound.  I later learned that it was the University Lodge. The University Lodge was constructed in the Art Deco Style by the architects Messrs Chau & Lee in 1949, and also the large naval gun uncovered during the construction of the Lodge.

We had lunch at Cafe 330 within the University compound.  I was so happy that it was empty and very comfortable.  They serve a set lunch which is very economical (by HK standard).

Love the simple and bright interior.

I got the rice with chicken set and a tiramisu mocca for HKD51.  Quite happy with my lunch but Weijun who ordered the spaghetti thought his food was blab.
