Spoilers! SPOILERS HERE. Just stay away if you haven't beaten Kingdom Hearts II, that's all I'm saying. Other than that, no warnings. Gen, with a little bit of angst, as Riku and Namine do...what they have to.
(
He could feel the dawn coming. )
Especially if you happened to be Sora when you said it~.
Unlike Roxas, becoming part of Kairi really seems to be more than Namine expected for herself. Building off of something kay_willow said that I only half-remember exactly, so if I'm stealing her words, hopefully she'll smack me. XD But Castle Oblivion was, perhaps, a test to Namine's mind -- not that that was its purpose or anything, but more like a side-effect. She gave Sora memories that made her the most important person in his life (and more important than Kairi, actually; more distinctly romantic, which I find interesting -- when Sora realizes they never knew each other and Namine says they were never friends, he actually says, "And we were never...more than that, either," or something extremely similar).
But even though she gave Sora these memories, made him care about her more than anyone else ever has, in the end, he still chose to forget her in favor of real people he only barely remembered. And Namine smiles, but, oh, the pain you can feel when she says, "Who needs fake memories anyway, right?" And I think at that point she made a decision. Before, she was timid and reluctant, but she clearly had the same hunger to be a real person that all Nobodies seem to feel. The same hunger for existence. And I think, with this one line, she stops wanting to exist.
Sora's a wonderful person, you know? If even his heart can't find room for her, what hope does she have? And so she thinks, I'll fade back into darkness, sure. And becoming whole in Kairi is a wonderful surprise, compared with that.
