Resurrection F - Reigniting The Flame

Wow, have I not used this - posted at least - in a good long time - last year it seems, in fact. Well, I haven't had anything significant happen that I've wanted to remember; record, I suppose, since then.

Well, I have nothing else to do and so, I'll go ahead and create an entry. Gotta have at least one a year.

So last night I went and saw 'Resurrection F' - A new DBZ movie that was made recently. In the theater; one night showing.  It's an interesting experience, being in a theater full of fans, much less people. Thankfully it wasn't too terrible - people were pretty respectful and not annoying idiots, as I was fearing could be the case.

Anyway, back to the movie.

Basically, it just re-awakened the reasons why I have a soft spot for this series. It really is my guilty pleasure, Dragonball Z.

First off, gotta say, Frieza is easily, by a landslide, the best villain the show ever had. There is something just naturally 'evil' and 'villainous' about him. At least for 'Z', he's the only major villain that was actually born the way he is; he was not created. Androids, Cell, Buu - they were all made. In a lot of ways, he is the most dangerous as he was a bit more calculating than the others; he had a lot of history, which equaled confidence, in himself an what he could do.

Really though, one of the best aspects of the movie is actually Vegita.

[Specifics]I never did understand why, in the other movies, that Vegita tended to not be featured much in fights. He'd come in for a very brief upper hand (or at least keep his own) before being knocked out of it. With the drive, persona, sheer willpower and pride of who and what he is, it would not make sense for Vegita to be always that behind Goku. For instance, before this new revival an GT was still kinda acknowledged, never did understand how Vegita never reached SSJ3, and could only reach SSJ4 with some machine (I think it was - could not really get into GT and never fully watched it).

With this new movie, as well as the two others (don't think the first 'new movie - something about Vegita having a brother ever made it over here), and the "quietly official" move to ignore the existance of GT, it can be assumed that he did reach SSJ3, as in this movie, he also attains the ability to tap into that SSGod level as Goku can.

Good. Finally - he is given his rightful due in an OVA. You see him standing his own; kicking ass and not being overpowered after the first minute or so. I really loved that they did that.

Now if they could only give some respect back to Broli.....

The movie was really well done for a DBZ movie, lots of amusing jokes, funny moments.
  • Did miss the presence of the two kids; but the nod they gave to them about them not being there was fair enough to their personalities
  • Was hoping Gohan wouldn't slide down more on the lame scale - but sadly he did.
  • Piccolo had a nice fight presence (although it would had been nice if it wa a little longer and epic - I almost though it would be more like his fight vs 17 for a bit).
  • They gave some awesome fight-screen time to Roshi - which was quite surprising as he usually talks and commentates; this was a another nice energy to the movie
  • Was hoping that 18 would be involved in some of the fighting - her moment was well done anyway, however.
  • Surprised to see Krillin eager to join in the fight - was not expecting that.  Seeing 'cueball' again was a nice moment.
  • The quip about Yamcha's absence was rather hilarious - but had truth to it
There was a lot to like, even though I do wish it was a little longer and the fight with Frieza had a little more too it. Would had liked Vegita's part of the fight with him to be a bit longer too - however, at the same time, it works well. He's no Goku, who will prolong fights on the count of his naivety.

I was kinda expecting the two of them to have to work together - some kind of fusion or something. It seamed like the comments that were brought up during the training scenes was a set-up to that. Partly disappointed, but it did lead to some interesting banter between the two Saiyans. The comment about them dismissing the thoughts of working together is rather fitting, anyway. They would never work together  unless it was a last resort - has always been that way, will always be that way.  The taking turns thing has always been interesting.

That quip at the end though, about them working together, does make me interested to see if they will continue to make these ova's now and again. I think that would be pretty damn cool.

I still need to see Battle of the Gods - never did see all of it.

And I would definitely go see it again in a theater. It was a cool experience that is rare. And i'm sure thse moves, if they do continue, is not going to be something that is pumped out that often. That would ruin it, as much as fans would love to see more DBZ - its better for it to be from time to time rather than all the time.

Also the pre-show thing was a nice touch. The trivia part was the highlight of that, definitely.

Furthermore, while I was content to wait until I upgraded to the PS4 before getting Xenoverse, I'm seriously considering going ahead and getting it for the PS3 - I think I still have a good while until I make the conversion anyway.  I believe it was on sale a while back in the PSN store - regretting not getting it then. Then again, I don't really mind paying full price for a DBZ game - especially since this one has an interesting aspect to it. Will probably end up on the 'get sooner than later' list.

dbz, notable events
