There are about twelve knaydelach simmering on the stove as we speak. I'm making them early 'cause the boilermaker isn't feeling so hot at teh moment. And we all know that chicken & matzo ball soup is the Jewish penicillin ;) I'll probably wind up making the charoset tonight as well. Speaking of which, I went to five different places with relatively large selections of wine and liquor (i.e. Walmart, Alberston's, Whole Foods, Martin Wine Cellar, and Matherne's supermarket), and could not, for the life of me, find Manischewitz Extra Heavy Malaga Wine. I usually use a whole bottle during Passover for my charoset. (My family eats it with matzah throughout the week, not just at the seder, which is why we use so gorram much of it.)
My fruitless search for this super sweetened wine reminded me of something else comically frustrating and Jewish-related what happened to me early this week. I went to Barnes & Noble in order to purchase haggadahs for the seder what I am hosting at my apartment on Tuesday. There was a pitifully small selection on a table marked "For Passover" near the enterance. I walked over to the help desk and asked if those were all of the haggadahs they had. My question was met with a blank stare by both the help desk employee AND the manager, which was followed by my first honest-to-Gd "oy vey" in a very, very long time.
So, this may not turn out to be the most halakhically sound Passover dinner of all time, but at least I put some real heart and soul and effort into making it teh best one possible, right? :)
