Today on Route 25-
First, this one is bothering me. A hawk on a lightpost on 25, gray head and back and light belly (no strong barring that I could see). What the fuck is it? I see these all the time in winter in trees and lights on the highway- I always want to say it's a peregrine, but I don't think so. More likely a Cooper's hawk.
25 in Trumbull- Back was to me, but very obviously a red-tailed hawk. Seemed fairly large and very darkly patterned. I'm sure on this one as red-tails are fairly common and are often seen in trees along the highways (they're much easier to identify when they're flying as their wings are long and broad and you can usually see the red coming from underneath their tail feathers).
On some rocks on the side of 25- 2 turkey vultures, one with wings outspread. There was probably something dead in the road that I missed as there was another vulture circling low over the highway not too far ahead from these two. Highways in winter are sometimes great places to see raptors.
