Character History: To most, dragons are beings of fear and awe. To Ohno, it's life as he's always known it. Close to 1000 years old, Ohno has existed in various states and forms throughout the world, protecting life around him and serving as a deity to several different cultures. As the world has changed, so has Ohno. Gone are the days of living in rural outskirts surviving on what the villagers would offer him in exchange for protection and good fishing bounties (which he really had no control over but if it meant an extra tuna or two he wouldn't turn it down). Society still respects him, especially Asian cultures, but life as a simple dragon is impossible with modern times.

Life started to change for Ohno sometime around the 1950's. Wars had happened, leaving a lot of people dead, homeless or simply changed forever. His villagers would approach him to be 'loaned out' to other villages for festivals and the like, seeing as a good chunk of his own species had been wiped out by bombings and other unfortunate happenings. Being a son of Watatsumi, Ohno was sought after for festival after festival and he quickly turned it into a highly profitable lifestyle. Never asking for much, Ohno used the proceeds from his appearances to support a basic life. He started spending more and more time in his human form, only appearing as a dragon when needed. It was easier that way - he took up much less space, required less food, and of course had the dexterity to do certain things he'd always enjoyed watching like fishing and art.

Spending more time in human form also gave Ohno a new opportunity - travel. As the world continued to expand, more and more Asian cultures spread across it and demand for his presence grew in places other than his home turf of Japan. Deciding a change of scenery was in order sometime in the mid-90's, Ohno packed up the little he owned, bid farewell to his villagers (but not before installing one of his younger siblings in to take his place) and moved to New York.

Nowadays, Ohno spends his time fishing in the warmer weather and practicing his art when it's too cold to be out. He makes a decent living participating in different festivals and parades throughout the city and in neighboring areas. It's more than enough to keep him happy in a loft apartment near Chinatown, keep him well fed and support his few hobbies. He likes wandering the city and people watching, using his experiences to inspire the art he does. His favorite mediums are charcoal and as of more recent digital media and resin figures.

To see Ohno, a normal being would have no idea his true form. He's short in stature, thin and his hair spikes up without any assistance of gel or other hair products - a tie-in to his normal back and head spines. His face is round and gentle, and he usually seems somewhat spaced out. Ohno's dragon form is on the small end - he can still somewhat fit in the living areas of his apartment while in it but movement is restricted and he can't leave without transforming back to his human form. Ohno is able to control his form, unless he's sick. A cold or other human illness will cause him to transform without notice and therefore he usually spends those times curled up in the caves of Inwood Hill Park until it passes. Being a water dragon, Ohno's form is wingless and long, more serpent-like than the traditional dragons. His inner magic makes it simple for him to walk on land, despite being built for water. His scales are a soft blue that shimmer a bit yellow when hit with sunlight. Ohno's magic is water based, giving him control over water and most water-dwelling creatures. He tends to avoid using it though while fishing - it makes it too easy and he enjoys the process more than the outcome. He also has basic healing abilities that he frequently used on lost or injured fishermen in his village but that he hasn't had need to use in years.

Ohno is technically unemployed, though he makes his living from the festivals and parades he frequently attends.

RP Sample: Ohno sighed, resting his chin on his palm. Fishing was horrible today, and he knew why. The weather had turned already, and even without his ability to hear the fish snoring away he'd know this was a lost cause. But really, Ohno didn't need to catch fish today: he had plenty in the fridge from the fishmonger who frequently hired him for his block parties every Chinese New Year. No, fishing now was simply a relaxation. He was the only one sitting on the bank of the pond right now, and while that garnered him a few strange looks from joggers and passersby, it was nice.

Albeit just a little boring with no fish to talk to.

Sighing softly, Ohno focused on a point in the middle of the pond. Slowly, the water rose and curled into tendrils, dancing across the surface and around itself. Ohno smiled, completely missing the gentle tug on his fishing line as he kept the water dancing.
