Bad timing
It turns out...the place I was waiting for a call back is now offering me a full time job and are pretty desperate for me to join their team.
Everyone tells me I couldn't have gambled on losing out this opportunity. It's a loyalty thing I suppose - the fact that my boss found me a job even though he knew he was leaving and found someone to supervise me.
