They dropped the price of the house again to $110,000. I could afford it even now on my unemployment income if I could get a loan, which I couldn't, of course. They have an offer, but the realtor doesn't seem to think it will go through. I have an appointment for a walkthrough Monday morning at 9. It's probably a waste of time, but I am still interested in it. I spoke to the neighbor across the street yesterday who has been in his home since 1955, the pump on the pool doesn't work, nor does the swamp cooler. It needs quite a bit of work, the pictures were apparently taken 4 years ago when everything was very new. The former owners bought it for $220,000 two and a half years ago, and were foreclosed upon so apparently did some damage. It's still cosmetic, but will definitely require some work before being habitable.

I talked to my SSG at the armory this morning, apparently they held the board for the job yesterday and today, so we should know next week who got it. He said he believes there were 9 applications. I'm not optimistic.

I did find another house on redding.com today. It's in the "stone" subdivision where my sister used to live, a 4 bedroom 2 bath with an inground pool for $170,000. All of the homes in that neighborhood are well maintained, however the pictures show that there is no stove in the kitchen so I would still have to do some work and expend a bit more to move in, but it's well worth it. I would likely offer $150k, and at that price I could afford it with just about any job I can get right now. We'll see what happens next week. I may call my friend Joe's lender to get some information on the likelihood of me qualifying for a loan with my current credit score of 641. I checked a good mortgage calculator, with monthly payments of $1000 and yearly additional payments of $2000 I could have a 30 year $150k loan paid off in 20 years.

I did get to the EDD a couple of weeks ago and was told that I qualify for VA assistance. This may or may not include vocational rehabilitation and college. I'll look into that next week depending on the outcome of the hiring board.
