I went out on a limb and started doing crazy things. Give up my job and apartment and head to the Appalachian Trail? Give up a good-paying job and move, without an apartment or job lined up, to a tropical island?
These things all worked out in the end. Here I am, living in the VI, working three hours a day. Sure, money can be tight every now and then, but I am making it work.
The most exciting thing? I have set a deadline of 31 January 2007 to figure out what I am going to be doing for the rest of 2007. I now realize that *anything*, and *anywhere* is on the table.
I am going to write something up in the next day or two, but some of the current choices include moving to Iceland, working on a cruiseship for six months, heading back to Boston, and teaching ESL somewhere cool.
I suppose the point is that, if you are willing to risk it, you can "leave and never look back". I realize my lifestyle is not for everyone, but even if you take inspiration enough to quit a job without something lined up, that is enough.
Do not put up with being so unhappy with parts of your life that your entire life becomes unhappy.
