It's almost impossible to land hits on him (unless you are Shizuo) as he has incredible dodging skill and speed. Not even Saika (demonic sword) that has been known to be oncredibly powerful and fast (and once successfully cut Celty - a Dullahan) can hit him. His body is also extremely strong seeing how he barely suffer any injuries, stood up and walks moments later even though he's often hit by random vending machines thrown at him by Shizuo.
He relies more on his cunning and manipulations as well as his job as an informer to influence people and supernaturals alike into doing things. Izaya rarely ever get involved physically, although if anything bad happens around him, he is usually involved one way or another. He is surprisingly very adept in determining people's thought and this made it easy for him to predict people's reaction. Also pretty good with computers and hacking (did that to Kida's online handle as well as for his job, hacking for information). He speaks fluent Russian.
Personality:
He is the walking definition of a troll to the ultimate level. He loves human so much (except Shizuo) that he just have to exhibits it by putting them in horrible conditions and watching them suffer through it. Izaya enjoys making other people miserable. He can even acts genuinely nice even if he's actually screwing you over. However, he also fears death or the idea of nothingness beyond death to be exact, hence why he orchestrated Ragnarok just so that he could at least be in hell where there will be some form of existence even if he did died.
In chat rooms he frequents, he usually pose as a girl under the guise of his screen name, Kanra. Otherwise he's also known as Nakura (male online persona). He has no trust for anyone. However, he really is just a lonely bastard who wanted nothing more than friends from whom he needed acknowledgement from. Unfortunately, most of his conceited actions work against this.
He has a rather 'healthy' relationship with his secretary, Namie whom he constantly banters with or uses to smooth his own ego. He talks to her about his plan sometimes and it was noted that he expected her to use those information he divulged into doing things he wanted her to, almost similar to what he did to Saki. Unfortunately, he was betrayed by Saki in the end of season 1 and even if he was disappointed, he reacted as if he had been expecting it.
Izaya plays a highly complicated combination of chess-shogi-reversi game and often uses it to represent current conflict/situation happening in Ikebukuro. He doesn't take it seriously though as he has burned one of the board in one of his... 'craze episode'.

He grew up in a normal family except his parents' weird taste in children names. He has two sisters (Mairu and Kururi) whom he wants nothing to do with and feels a little guilty for influencing them into what they are now. He will very much prefer not to talk about them at all.
Izaya attended Raira Academy alongside Shizuo and Shinra. Shizuo and him hated each other with a passion from the moment they met. He has always succeeded in manipulating others with the exception of Shizuo which he learned later is too simple minded to be manipulated. Their mutual hatred escalated after Izaya framed Shizuo for crimes he committed. He moved to Shinjuku then after but returns once in a while for business purposes and his plan for Ragnarok.
Relationship with Shinra wasn't anywhere better but he they do stay in touch, at least with the assignments for Celty from Izaya.
His dealing with the Yakuza & selling out color gangs with his informations landed him in hot soup several times. It is also the reason why he moved to Shinjuku. His true personality is out in Ikebukuro and it would make his job difficult. Kida Masaomi, the ex-leader of the Yellow Scarves, was one of his victim. Izaya manipulated his girlfriend who idolized Izaya to get herself kidnapped. Kida blames himself for what happened to Saki and the incident gave him a permanent trauma that Izaya uses to his advantage later to cause another all out gang war.
He discovered the website of Dollars and used it for his future plans by expanding it in size and spreads rumors to help propagate it's influence. When he discovered the identity of one of Dollar's founder is none other than Ryugamine Mikado, he was extremely pleased with himself. He encouraged Mikado to use Dollar's influence and promised not to sell information of him being the founder to anyone (which he did reveals to Kida later.).
He's also the one pulling the strings of Mika Harima all along and uses her to his advantage when was required to find Seiji for Namie. From this, he acquired the Dullahan's (Celty's) head which he intended to use to invoke Ragnarok as he believes Dullahans are Valkyries on Earth. He assumes the Dullahan is waiting for war to happen so that it can reawaken and choose a holy warrior to take with to Valhalla. Izaya wants to be the chosen one for he fears the non-existent of death and believes he can be chosen by starting a war. He also drops enough information to Namie so that she could tipped off Horada about Mikado's and Kida's relationship to further facilitates the gang war.
He's also aware of Saika and it's multiplying children and even uses one of them to kill Shizuo with then retrieving the gun used for the attempt. The same Saika's child was also used as a bait to draw Saika/Anri out in which Izaya declared his love for humans and vow to never give them to her, well, except Shizuo because he doesn't want or needs him. Anri attempted to attack Izaya but he fended her off easily with his combination of Parkour and his measly flick-blade.
Unfortunately, Dotachin and gang interrupted his plan (plus Horada was a little stupider than expected) the gang war did not happened as he wanted. He even got hit by preachy Simon who claimed that he, Orihara Izaya has a Shizuo complex. The nerve that Russian has. Izaya is far from done as he is still possession of Celty's head and he has yet to fulfill his bargain with Namie to get back his brother.

And that fake smile disappeared, only to be replaced by a sly grin as he watched the group of baseball players stormed off angrily in the direction of the school field where Shizu-chan was busy cracking some track fielders' bones. He was please. What can he said? He loved it when his little schemes worked out well.
Now, if only Shizu-chan played by his script too...

Where is this? White room with steel furnitures. No escape route, at least none visible. What lousy taste of decors. You could at least make some windows, can you? That way, I can try making a break out and you can attempt to re-capture me. Definitely beats being a sitting duck here.

Izaya is also in possession of Celty's head, so I need to know if he gets to keep it.
