Camelot, Sunday Morning Fandom Time

Feb 06, 2011 15:00

It had not been a good night for poor old Gaius. While Merlin had been released in the wake of his arrest, Gaius himself had been cast into a cold cell. Occasionally, Aredian would visit, and the visits were less pleasant every time. Sometimes because of actions, though those weren't the worst ( Read more... )

While Aredian busied himself in preparation for Gaius' burning later that day, his rooms laid empty. Behind several cupboards, he had hidden the petals and perfumes and fake amulets he'd need to implicate any further sorcerers, though they were safely locked.

Well. For normal people, at least...

The best part of being a servant was sometimes simply being invisible to people when passing through the halls.

To a certain Witchfinder's rooms.

"Look around," he whispered. "We have to be quick."

Karla nodded and silently glided into the room. Because Aredian had only been in his rooms for a few days, his psychic stench hadn't permeated the whole of it yet. Which meant that the place where it had congregated the thickest was where he had stashed things of the most personal importance.

"Over here," she murmured. "There might be something useful in this pile."

Katchoo had moved over toward one of the cupboards, looking it over with no small amount of disdain.

"This is a secret hiding place? Pathetic." She poked a finger at the lock. "Dammit, I left my lockpicks in my other corset."

"Since when do you have a corset?" Francine, your interest is probably appreciated, but focus, please. "I mean, um. We could break it open? If there's something bad in there it's not going to matter if he figures out we were here, right?"

"Or we could use magic," Merlin replied in one of the few points that he recalled he was a wizard.

Really now, show. Really.

He walked over to give the lock a firm poke just as Katchoo had done. "...did Arthur try to give you girls corsets?"

"I can reach through and pull out what's in there," Karla offered. "Or just stick my head in and give a tally?"

"You people," Katchoo pretended to gripe. "Did good old-fashioned opening-the-lock go out of style? Geez."

"I'd be happy to let you teach me how after we're done here!" Karla promised eagerly. What? It was a skill she'd always wanted to learn.

"But unless we have another way in...?" Her eyes slid to Merlin as she asked that. He usually had something interesting up his sleeves.

"Magic it is," Merlin confirmed with a nod. A whispered spell as he ran his fingers over the lock was all it took for it to click and the door to conveniently swing ajar. Sorry, Door.

"I like that spell a lot."

"Good spell," Francine said like it was one of Bryn's puppies and she was patting it on the head. She crouched over a bit to peer around Merlin into the cabinet.

"Handy, Ears." Katchoo had to get up on tiptoe to peer around into the cabinet. Geez, damn taller people.

She snorted when she got a glimpse of what was inside, though. "Aw, gee. Now what would a guy who hates magic this much be doing with all this apparently-magical stuff, huh?"

"Better question--how much more can we get in there?" Karla asked, a not-very-nice smile hovering on her lips. "We want so much evidence that even Uther can see what's going on."

Guess who didn't have a very favorable opinion of the king of Camelot. Just guess.

"I think we could manage that," Merlin replied with a grin. You all were such horrible influences on him. Horrible.

"Would a signed confession be over the top?" Francine didn't think so, but her judgment was not everyone's.

...Then again consider who she was asking.

Francine, in this group, there was possibly no such thing ever as over the top.

"Not nearly dramatic enough for this place," was Katchoo's opinion on that. "Packing every spare inch with planted incriminating evidence, on the other hand . . ."

This was a job for metaphorical anvils, dammit!

She gave Merlin and Karla a toothy, predatory smile. "You two can manage that."
